JOB SUMMARY The Patient Representative is responsible for performing billing, collecting, and accounts receivable transaction processing, and for handling billing inquires for the Hospital and Clinic. Referrals, posting charges, payments for insurances, refunds and adjustments. This position will also cover for hospital patient registrations, switchboard functions, and cashier duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Must be have strong customer service skills and be able to work under pressure at times. . Posts charges and payments from daily encounter forms; balances daily business. . Receives patients and visitors to the hospital. . Registers patients into the hospital computer system and completes necessary paperwork. . Triages incoming phone calls, routes calls, and takes messages. . Pages personnel and providers as requested. . Processes and calculates the daily PHO patient and commercials payor payments received via mail and/or hand delivery. Forwards completed deposit to Accounting Specialist for deposit to the bank. .Supports and abides by all PHO departmental and safety policies and procedures. . Acts in a professional manner reflecting the mission, philosophy and values of Mitchell County Regional Health Center and Mercy Health Network. . Performs other responsibilities as requested by the PFS Coordinator, Director of Patient Financial Services and/or the Administrative Team. . Regular and Reliable Attendance is expected.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS A. Education: 1. High school diploma or equivalent is required. Post-high school education is desirable. 2. Must have experience with or course work in medical terminology or be willing to obtain within one year in the position.
