Description of Job
Conduct Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) laboratory analysis, using standardized scientific protocols, from various waters throughout Colorado. Specifically, this position will conduct microscopy and taxonomic identification from field samples for mollusks, crayfish, macrophytes, zooplankton and phytoplankton. Water quality analysis will also be conducted. Detailed record keeping and the ability to follow strict field protocols are required. Applicant must be able
to work both independently and as part of a team.
This position will report to the laboratory at 6060 Broadway in Denver from 8am-5pm daily (Monday - Friday).
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
B.S. in natural resources/botany/fisheries/wildlife or other natural resource field.
Previous experience conducting microscopy and laboratory analysis for aquatic species is required.
Taxonomic expertise of aquatic species is required.
Knowledge of aquatic plant taxonomy, mollusk and crayfish identification is required.
Knowledge of zooplankton, phytoplankton, algae and diatom identification desired.
Technical writing skills and experience performing statistical analysis is required.
Experience with ArcGIS software required.
Experience with Microsoft Word applications required – Word, Excel, Access and SQL.
Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) are required.
Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
PREFERRED EDUCATION: Bachelors Degree in Biological Sciences or comparable work experience.
