Position Overview:
Integrates knowledge, theory and practice to properly execute procedures in assigned areas of pathology. Maintains competence in all routine practices (e.g. specimen handling and preparation, tissue gross examination within limits defined by department procedures, and specimen storage/retrieval/disposal); routine maintenance; and basic troubleshooting. Duties may include receiving, preparing, archiving and/or retrieving specimens/material; preparing and or stocking department supplies and reagents; performing quality assurance tasks; and assisting with post-mortem examinations.

EDUCATION:
HS Diploma or GED
College Courses: 60 semester hours from an accredited college or university that includes the following: 24 semester hours of science related courses to include 6 semester hours of biology, 6 semester hours of chemistry, and 12 semester hours of other science courses in combination.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge/Skills: Demonstrated basic knowledge and technical competence in specimen collection and preparation, laboratory operations, and quality assurance.
Quantity of Work: Ability to organize and prioritize job duties and assigned tasks for completion within expected time-frames.
Quality of Work: Ability to accurately, precisely, and reliably perform job duties and assigned tasks. Demonstrates sound judgment and problem solving relevant to assigned duties.
Culturally Competent Communication: Ability to compassionately and effectively interact individuals and groups of diverse ages, backgrounds, values, beliefs and behaviors.
Workflow Management: Ability to appropriately respond to fluctuations in volume, unexpected situations or problems such as equipment or information system failures, shift-to-shift hand-offs, priority test orders, and specimen integrity issues.
Adherence to Practices & Procedures: Ability to follow standard practices, processes, and procedures in sequence. Knowledge of applicable local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies, and procedures aimed at ensuring the privacy and safety of patients.
Pay Range: 33.82 - 42.28
The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs.
