Job Description

It's the talented Ingalls Structural Welders that bond the steel together, giving our ships their strength and integrity and thereby keeping our sailors, military and nation safe. Does that sound like an interesting way to make a great living? Then a rewarding career as an Ingalls Shipbuilding Welder awaits you at Mississippi's largest private employer and "America's Shipyard".

Since 1938, Ingalls workforce has done their part in helping our nation by constructing nearly 70 percent of our US Navy's fleet of ships. If you possess the talent, skill, ability or even the willingness to learn, perhaps you have what it takes to become a valued team member.

Job Description

An Ingalls Welder is responsible for the joining together of different types of metal materials with a variety of welding processes; the most basic of which are, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) also known as "stick welding" and Flux-Core Arc Welding (FCAW) also known as "wire welding." The shipyard environment is an around the clock manufacturing setting. Ingalls shipyard production areas at times involve working at different heights, confined spaces, different weather conditions as well as multiple shifts 24 hours a day. As with most every position in the shipyard, a Welder will be required to work either day or night dependent upon the number of ships under construction at any one point in time. Ingalls stresses the practice of working safely in all situations with safety procedures meeting, and most times, exceeding industry standards.

Basic Qualifications

  • This position requires a minimum of one (1) year of work experience in FCAW (Flux Core) and SWAW (Stick) welding, the ability to pass military standard tests in the vertical (3G), horizontal (2G) and overhead (4G) positions.
  • Successful completion of a welding technical training certification program will be allowed in lieu of experience requirement. Qualified applicants will be required to pass a hands-on skill assessment; the weld test is for x-ray quality.
