We are looking for an experienced and self-motivated individual to fill the position of Technical Manager within our Chemical Manufacturing Plant located in Pedricktown, NJ.

Essential Duties

  • This position provides technical direction for the development, design, project planning and support of the engineering and laboratory functions of the facility.
  • Supports the core values of the organization through establishing expectations and maintaining a focus on safety, environmental compliance, quality, cost consciousness, reliability and operations.
  • Upholds the rules, regulations, and practices of the OxyChem Safety and Environmental Programs, including attendance of safety meetings, participation in emergency drills, incident investigations, and assisting in routine plant inspections.
  • Ensure plant operates in a safe and environmentally responsible manner while achieving high productivity and low costs.
  • Direct activities of the Technical Department in a manner that achieves quality standards and targeted goals in a safe, efficient, and reliable manner.
  • Provide leadership for the development and implementation of cost saving projects (fixed, variable and marginal income).
  • Provide long and short-range plans for project development, systems analysis, and necessary engineering support resources.
  • Establish and maintain the site’s Process Safety and Risk Accountability system to ensure that programs accurately reflect OxyChem’s current process safety and risk management efforts and goals.
  • Create, review, and evaluate the sites’ overall PSM organization/responsibilities and their effectiveness to correct deficiencies as identified.
  • Control technical expenditures within budget requirements by monitoring expenditures, adjusting priorities, and forecasting future engineering requests.
  • Provide timely and effective communication of the status of technical projects/issues and team accomplishments.
  • Manage all available technical resources (internal and external) to ensure timely and cost-effective achievement of plant priorities.
  • Ensure plant laboratory is operated efficiently with highly accurate results which provide direct support to the operating departments.
  • Develop effective liaison with Division and Corporate staff to enhance planning for efficient use of property and equipment.
  • Participate and accept responsibility for meeting plant and individual goals and monthly spreadsheet responsibilities.
  • Direct planning and scheduling programs and its’ effectiveness through the use of established benchmarks and parameters.
  • Develop and maintain technical knowledge and skill of self and of team members.
  • Supports and fulfills the requirements of the plant’s ISO Quality System.
  • Ensure open lines of communication exist with other plant departments.
  • Ensure consistency of application and administration of all policies, including Affirmative Action and Diversity Programs.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, or closely related engineering field, with a preferred minimum of 10 years manufacturing experience in technical, maintenance or production departments.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft applications (such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and good working knowledge of SAP.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read, write and speak in English.
  • Must be able to respond to off hour emergencies.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and respond to callouts on a non-routine basis.
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs., climb ladders and stairs.  Walking, bending, stooping is required.  Must be able to wear personal protective equipment including the use of a respirator.  Must be able to respond to visual and audible alarms.
