Exciting Opportunity for a Project Engineer – Steam Turbine

This is an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer – Steam Turbine to join a vibrant business undergoing significant growth and looking to further develop its engineering capabilities.

As a Project Engineer is responsible for all engineering design activities involving our steam turbine product lines for a specific project. The Project Engineer will be involved in all areas of the steam turbine design lifecycle from project inception to installation completion.

This is a permanent position working 37.5 hours per week. We offer hybrid working for this role which will allow you to enjoy the balance of home working and collaboration time with the team in our modern, friendly offices which include free onsite parking.

What Needs To Be Done?

  • Work within a Steam Turbine delivery project team coordinating the interfaces between the Engineering team and the Project Management team and ensures effective transfer of information between the two.

  • Participates in the planning and scheduling of the scope of Engineering for the project and provides inputs to the project technical document register.

  • Assists in the production of the project execution plan and prepares the coordination procedures for the project.

  • Monitors the engineering progress against the plan, addresses shortfalls, assists in developing recovery plans where required and ensures plans are implemented. Provides feedback to Engineering Manager as and when required on the progress.

  • Capable of formulating and implementing resolutions to technically challenging and/or high profile issues with support from other engineering personnel and resolving with Project Management and Client.

  • Participates in and coordinates the production of the engineering deliverables for the project in accordance with the plan. Coordinates input from multiple engineering disciplines, procurement, project controls and third parties.

  • Supports Sales and Applications to review and comment on specifications during bidding phase.

  • Liaises with and supports our supply chain with technical queries and documentation reviews

  • Ensures compliance with Quality procedures, Project Quality Plan and Design Integrity processes and procedures.

  • Coordinates preparation and presentation of the final documentation in accordance with requirements of the Client acceptance certificates.

  • Supports installation and commissioning queries that relate to the scope of the design

  • Ensures that all project records are populated and maintained.

  • Participates in a formal review of the project with relevant parties on completion, and identifies opportunities for learning and development.

  • Ensure that Health and Safety practices are followed both in daily work and incorporated with product design.

  • Delivers commitments on time, budget, quality and to specification.

To be successful you must have …

  • Experience in a design and engineering environment.

  • Experience of New equipment development projects through the entire life cycle.

  • Knowledge of other engineering disciplines.

  • Able to demonstrate experience in a similar role.

  • Experience of dealing with complex customer specifications.

  • Experience in the Oil and Gas or Power Generation industries.

  • Experience of high speed rotating machinery and their sub-systems.

  • Understanding of P&ID drawings and experience of constructing them.

  • Six Sigma/Lean experience is desirable.

  • Must have experience of working with customer’s to understand their requirements.

  • Must be a self-starter with excellent customer service skills.

  • Confident and professional communication style, both written and oral.

  • Ability to build relationships and attention to detail are critical to succeeding in this role.

  • Must possess interpersonal skills enabling productive relationships with peers, superiors and others where formal reporting relationships do not exist. Excellent computer skills with MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.

  • Ability to travel UK and Worldwide.

  • Degree in related Engineering topic and Chartered Status preferred.
