Stellar Headquarters Pipefitter/Welder Apprentice in Phoenix, Arizona

Stellar is seeking a Refrigeration Pipefitter/Welder Apprentice to assist journeyman with plan, lay-out, position and align fabricated parts of mechanical, structural, and miscellaneous assemblies. You will help with the installation, test, and repair all types of pipe and similar tubular products in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes, and industry standards. You should understand and possess basic knowledge of welding and pipefitting.

  • Maintain clean work environment and roof protection

  • Use appropriate hand and power tools to properly measure, cut, assemble, and install all types of pipe and/or similar tubular products

  • Install supports, valves and other control equipment as required or directed

  • Help test installed piping systems and install all other related items in accordance with the applicable plans and specifications

  • Bolt, clamp or tack-weld parts to secure in position for final welding

  • Utilize all pipe fitting techniques and methods for different types of piping systems and pipe couplings including butt welded, socket welded, threaded, Victaulic, grooved, glued and fused joints

  • Understand and implement lockout/tagout procedures in a safe manner

  • Follow established job-site safety and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work area.

  • Identify safety hazards you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.

  • Perform all other job-related duties as requested by supervisor​​​​​​​

  • Employee will be required to wear personal protective equipment as needed to perform job tasks

  • Employee is regularly exposed to noise, dust, and varying types of smells

  • Employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles; must be able to properly use and handle toxic or caustic chemicals

  • Employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, elevated work areas, and outside weather conditions

  • Employee is expected to work in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining a clean work area

  • Employee is expected to comply with Stellar, client, and OSHA safety requirements while traveling

Expected Hours of Work

  • Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. primarily during day shift

  • Scheduling requirements may routinely require work seven days a week and some periodic second shift hours

  • Certain portions of projects may require work up to 16 hours per day for several consecutive days

  • Holidays are not exempt from working if scheduling is required

Travel

Anticipated 100% travel for this position. Locations vary throughout the United States.

  • Education: High School Diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate)

  • Experience: Minimum 1 years’ experience as a welding or pipe-fitter apprentice

  • Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers and fractions rapidly and accurately.

  • Communication Skills – Comprehend documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. The ability to understand information, ideas, direction and then be able to perform the task or project discussed. Also, to be able to ask questions to insure you understand the information given

  • Must have a basic knowledge of pipe-fitting techniques and welding methods

  • Must have basic knowledge of rigging equipment

  • Must posses basic knowledge for reading and understanding drawings

  • Must be able to work with carbon steel, stainless steel, PVC, poly/HDPE, copper, and various high pressure/temperature alloys

  • Must be able to understand the use of bevellers, threaders, torches and other end prep equipment

  • Must be able to set up welding machines as required

  • Must be able to operate mechanically powered lifting equipment for both personnel and materials as trained
