UPMC Health Plan and Workpartners is hiring a full-time Associate Workers Compensation Underwriting Technician to support the WC Underwriting team. This role will work in a hybrid structure with some time spent in the office in downtown Pittsburgh.
Reports to Workers Comp Underwriting Support Supervisor. Responsible for providing Underwriting, Risk Control, and Claims with information necessary to make sound underwriting decisions (i.e., marketing, customer service and administrative support affecting brokers/insureds from initial submission through policy issuance and renewals). Provides support within established performance standards and priorities that are responsive to marketing, underwriting, retention and service goals. Assures all related support activities are delivered in a manner consistent with business unit customer service and expense management focus.
Responsibilities:
Policy Transactions Folder Creation: Prepares documents for policy quotes by gathering and organizing specified information and reports to assist the underwriting department, and requests additional information required to handle an account.
Completes system entries withing authority level and indexes all supporting documentation in the underwriting file.
Process other insurance transactions (ie: automatic renewals) within authority level to provide customer service and support efforts to acquire and retain profitable business.
Process non-compliant audits and as well monitor status of audit reopen requests.
Customer Service: Communicates effectively with Commercial Workers Compensation team. Responds to requests from underwriters, agents, and broker within authority level. Communicates with brokers/agencies, insureds/customers and internal departments.. Resolves customer inquiries and requests through handling of team voicemail and email inboxes. Manages FileNet by handling requests received or distributing accordingly. Handles of non-complex billing questions
System: Performs necessary system transactions. Assists in the administration of web based agency/client portals. Assists in the release of weekly, monthly and other periodic reports including but not limited to: Non-sufficient funds report to UTs. Manage and distribute refund and transfer requests worksheet to finance department Indexes panel documentation within policies. Processing crits and errors from rating bureaus. Indexes collections documentation within policies. Enters employee counts on workplaces within polices
Miscellaneous: Responsible for processing quality, timeliness and file maintenance. Meet productivity and quality goals/expectations. Work independently to make sound business decisions. Perform other related support duties as requested, such as answering phones, processing mail, assisting customers, scanning, photocopying etc.
High school diploma (or equivalent)
1-3 years of customer service and/or administrative experience required
