Pace School is hiring a Classroom Assistant (CA). The responsibility of the CA is to provide assistance to the classroom teacher related to clerical tasks and instructional/behavioral support to students.

REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma/GED

Preferred:

Bachelor's degree in related field is preferred.

Experience working with children with special needs in an educational setting is preferred.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assists the Teacher to implement the goals and objectives identified on the Individual Education Program (IEP) for each child/adolescent, and participates in ongoing review and revision of the plans.

  2. Intervenes with children/adolescents in a direct role to monitor or assist them to complete tasks.

  3. Assists the team to provide a safe, functional and orderly environment for children/adolescents.

  4. Monitors and assists children/adolescents during transitions throughout the building.

  5. Supervise children/adolescents during structured or peer-based activities, breakfast and/or lunch, field trips, assemblies, fire drills, arrival and dismissal and recreational activities as assigned.

  6. Maintains attendance records daily.

  7. Completes clerical or other tasks that support instruction as assigned.

  8. Implements the school-wide, classroom and individual behavior plans as designed.

  9. Participates in the completion of Functional Behavior Assessments

  10. Applies the concepts of reinforcement, corrective feedback, punishment, extinction, problem solving, and non-confrontational limit setting appropriately to support each child/adolescent's efforts in achieving their treatment and educational objectives.

  11. Communicates clear expectations to children/adolescents and implements the Behavior Management System in accordance with Pace's policies and procedures.

  12. Maintains certification in the adopted Crisis Management system and consistently applies knowledge of crisis intervention and behavioral management, such as verbal de-escalation techniques, non-confrontational limit setting and physical restraint/management and utilizes the behavior management program set forth by Pace procedures.

  13. Utilizes physical restraint/management techniques and procedures, in accordance with the Pace policies and procedures, as a last resort intervention to keep a child/adolescent safe from harming him/herself or others.
