Description This exciting position for a determined Controller for an esteemed Non-Profit company is being filled by Robert Half. In this leadership position, you will direct an accounting and clerical department. As the Controller, you will be planning and directing all accounting operational functions, handling the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluating accounting and internal control systems, and leading departmental staff. This permanent position is for a Controller who will work in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania region.

Your responsibilities in this role

  • Assure client expectations are met by reviewing deliverables of self and team

  • Assess, execute and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

  • Time monthly billing and other cash management techniques to make sure cash collection is punctual

  • Manage the creation of the annual budget and forecasts and monitor them on a monthly basis

  • Support Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, with research, planning, and implementation, as required

  • Handle daily cash management and produce cash-flow reports, calculating cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals

  • Complete tasks beyond formal job responsibilities

  • Work closely with executive team and partners to ensure that firm-wide operation is efficient and effective

  • Give financial reports to executive committee and partners each month

  • Oversee the activities of the finance department, such as accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

  • Handle monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, account reconciliations & G/L analysis Requirements - Earlier experience in public accounting is highly valued

  • CPA or MBA preferred

  • Self-driven motivator who takes initiative on projects with a strong ability to understand and solve creative challenges

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

  • Ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment

  • Grant accounting experience required

  • Month end closings experience

  • Non-profit fund accounting experience

  • Financial statement preparation experience highly desired

  • Deep understanding of general ledger

  • Prior work in technology, analytics and management experience desired

  • Skilled in analytical, quantitative and social skills

  • Outstanding communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written, and ability to build as well as deliver effective presentations

  • Ability to prioritize work and balance multiple projects and deadlines

  • Ability to effectively interact, verbally and in writing

  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, Economics or other business related field

  • Attention to detail and ability to follow standard procedures is a requirement
