The Position

The Human Resources Generalist II performs internal day-to-day operations of the Human Resources Department. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: 401K, recruiting, benefits administration, labor/employee relations, performance management, compensation, on-boarding/off-boarding, training, data reporting, policy implementation, and employment law compliance.

In addition, the Human Resources Generalist II manages both project-based and day-to-day operations of the Human Resources departments for outside clients, developing and managing the administration of the human resources policies, procedures and programs; and weighing in on company-wide decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain employee-related databases. Prepares and analyzes reports that are necessary to carry out the functions of the department and company. Prepares periodic reports for management, as necessary or requested

  • Conduct onboarding for new hires, such as new employee orientation, explanation of benefits, explanation of company policies, practices and procedures, verifying I-9 and E-Verify

  • Perform benefits administration and serve as liaison between employees and insurance carriers

  • Administer 401(k) including enrollments, rollovers, withdrawals, semi-annual meetings Update handbooks and/or HR procedures manual as necessary

  • Perform labor grievances as needed by investigating circumstances of incident, validity of claims, adherence to contract policies and completion of resolution procedures. Investigate and handle staff complaints, disputes, and grievances

  • Process unemployment claims; attend unemployment hearings as necessary

  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, clients, employment agencies, universities, and other recruitment sources

  • Partner with talent acquisition team to administer offer letters, new hire paper work and processes and facilitate orientation.

  • Conduct off boarding and assist in termination meetings, and exit processes

  • Administer worker’s compensation, FMLA, LOA, STD and LTD as needed

  • Maintain HRIS system; update and provide training on HRIS system as necessary

  • Coordinate annual employee performance reviews

  • Comply with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.

  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

  • Manage, communicate, and complete important projects as assigned

  • Participate in strategic planning and departmental development

  • Maintain current EEO reports

  • Other exempt-level duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • 5+ years proven work experience in a small-business, non-profit, or startup environment

  • Extremely detail oriented

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Deep knowledge of HR regulations and best practices

  • Comfortable resolving conflict

  • Experience with multiple HRIS platforms

  • SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP is highly desired.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Starting at $55,000. Negotiable based on experience
