Barrington Stage Company, an award-winning professional theatre company
located in the heart of the Berkshires, is seeking a skilled
Carpenter/Scenic Drafter to join our team in Pittsfield, MA. This
dynamic role combines hands-on carpentry with the precise technical
drafting skills essential for bringing scenic designs to life by
assisting the Technical Directors in drafting the scenic needs
throughout the season, for productions on our Boyd-Quinson Stage, and St
Germain Stage. This position requires a driven and passionate
professional with strong communication and organizational skills, a
working knowledge of scenic creation techniques, and computer drafting
programs, and a working knowledge of shop tools and maintenance.

Responsibilities - Collaborate with Technical Directors to interpret the
Scenic Designs and create precise and accurate technical drawings. -
Utilize CAD software (Vectorworks or AutoCAD preferred) to generate
detailed ground plans, elevations, sections, and other necessary
construction documents. - Work closely with the Technical Director,
Scenic Charge, and construction teams to address design challenges,
ensure feasibility, and optimize build plans. - Effectively communicate
design intent, specifications, and updates to the carpentry shop and
other fabrication teams. - Assist with pre-production budgeting,
including estimating materials, labor, and potential rental costs. -
Maintain a safe and organized work environment in the scene shop,
adhering to all established safety protocols. - Assist with additional
production tasks as needed, including site surveys, model building, and
other support activities. Skills: - Demonstrated proficiency in CAD
software (Vectorworks preferred) - Advanced experience in scenic
drafting or a closely related field. - Solid understanding of theatrical
construction techniques, materials, and industry-standard practices. -
Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
in a fast-paced environment. - Working knowledge of scenic construction
techniques and materials - Ability to skillfully operate a variety of
pneumatic and electric hand tools as well as stationary tools, including
table saws, bandsaws, panel saws, miter saws and sanders - Working
knowledge of welding and rigging - Working knowledge of shop tools and
equipment - Able to lift up to 50 pounds and comfortable working at
heights This position reports to the Technical Directors. It is a
part-time, seasonal position Contract: Remote Work 4/22/2024 - 5/19/2024
In-person Work 5/20/2024 through 9/20/2024 Salary is \$18.50 per Hour,
with housing included.
