Summary You will serve as a ELECTRICIAN in the TEMPORARY SERVICES SHOP, PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will maintain and repair shop electrical equipment and electrical welding generators. You will test and identify various temporary cables and circuits. You will install and maintain all temporary electrical services of vessels assigned to the activity. You will run temporary power supply circuits to radio, radar, sonar and gyro equipment. You will supply temporary DC power to marine batteries for charging. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: *Ability to use electrical instruments such as: ohmmeter, ammeter, voltmeter, phase rotation indicators, and rheostats. *Planning and laying out work, and completing repairs and installations. *Installing and operating a variety of electrical systems and equipment. *Using arithmetic to figure load factors, and amounts of wire and cable needed. *Reading and interpreting blueprints, specifications, sketches, and manufacture's wiring guides.
