Job Summary:
Instruct students in activities designed to assist with leaning English as a second language and provide an environment favorable to learning and personal growth in accordance with each student's ability.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in education or related field, including all courses to meet the credential requirements.
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with the (NS) English as a Second Language endorsement (or qualify by MDE guidelines for a sub permit and obtain valid MI certification within 3 years)
- One to three years' teaching experience preferred.
- Ability to assume responsibility, display initiative, and exercise good judgment.
- Ability to build and maintain strong interpersonal relationships and work effectively in a collaborative environment with students, district staff and the public.
- Commitment to the belief that all students can learn, and to the mission of educational equity.
- Ability to use data in the decision-making process, and strong problem-solving skills.
- Proficient computer and document skills.
- Ability to continuously elevate professional contributions through ongoing reflection, building upon previous learning, and being open and receptive to ongoing feedback.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Skilled at teaching subject content in an integrated manner.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for designing and implementing English language learning supplemental program instruction base on student needs.
- Administer, analyze and use assessments of students to assist in determining eligibility for services and readiness for exit from services.
- Use active, student-centered learning to develop student strengths.
- Work closely with other professional staff (including teacher, paraprofessionals, and building leadership) to meet individual student needs.
- Collaborate with other teachers to align curricular expectations of the intervention program (Tier II) with general education program requirements (Tier I).
- Understand the MTSS process and use it to accelerate student learning.
- Plan and implement parent involvement activities.
- Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside of he instructional day.

- Posses high standards of ethics, honesty, and integrity in personal and professional matters.
- Excellent team and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in another language in addition to English preferred.
- Utilize a variety of researched-based instructional techniques, strategies, and methods in all content areas.
- Understand, value, and positively respond to the unique traits of all students.
- Collaborate to create and execute clear, logical instructional plans that produce strong results in student learning.
- Actively participate in instructional coaching cycles which requires analyzing data, action planning, and reflecting on the instructional practices.
- Adheres to the District's and School's policies, expectations, and protocols.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
- Regular and consistent attendance.
- Must have knowledge of and comply with the policies and procedures contained in the Portage Public Schools Handbook.
