Under general supervision of a Recreation Services Supervisor, this
position performs responsible technical and diversified administrative
and field support for the Forestry Division; works along and oversees
the work of the Forestry Crew; and schedules and conducts assessments
for defensible space within the City of Prescott; and vegetation
inspections for new construction within the Wildland Urban Interface
Zone.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
This position has supervisory responsibilities. Exercises independent
judgment and is responsible for initiating, developing, and implementing
initiatives, policies, and regulations within the Forestry Division.
Regularly coordinates with various stakeholders, organizations, and
other partners such as city open space, HOAs, the State of Arizona, and
the US Forest Service. Serves to initiate and champion community-wide
initiatives such as the Fire Adapted Community framework that promotes
community wildfire adaptation.
Work may include supervising other city employees, volunteers, interns,
and contractors. This position will also periodically participate, as
able, in other prevention and preparedness programs within the City of
Prescott and other outside agencies or organizations.
Essential Duties:
- Coordinates work for fuel reduction crew and mechanical treatments.
- Orders supplies necessary to keep the fuel reduction crew
operational.
- Schedules and conducts defensible space assessments for homeowners;
describes how and why treatment is needed and the benefits.
- Conducts vegetation management inspections for Wildland Urban
Interface Code enforcement sites involving hazard mitigation.
- Researches, prepares, and submits potential fuel reduction grants in
coordination with the Wildfire Risk Management Supervisor.
- Prepares fuel reduction prescriptions, detailed work plans, and
budgets for grant projects.
- Administers, manages, and maintains thorough documentation of fuel
reduction grants/projects and personnel completing the project work.
- Compiles quarterly reports for current fuel reduction grants and
submits to Fire Departments Administrative Specialist
- Submits Documentation to Fire Department for complex financial and
operational reports and statistics.
- Acts as a liaison and coordinator for Division to outside agencies
and community groups
- Arranges and ensures assigned employees receive proper required
training as required in forest health and fuel mitigation.
- Supervises and trains staff; prioritizes and assigns work; conducts
performance evaluations; and ensures that employees follow policies
and procedures.
- Manages the forestry budget; submits and manages grant programs.
- Prepare and present reports on hazard reduction efforts.
- Interprets established policy and provide information for the
resolution of problems.
- Attends meetings as Division representative and serves as the first
point of contact for the Department as assigned
- Responsible for maintaining and scheduling of the City\'s Chipping
Program
- Performs other duties as assigned.
