PRICE MUNICIPAL CORP Laborer in PRICE, Utah

Job purpose

 

Provide unskilled to semi-skilled assistance in the construction, repair, maintenance and operation of municipal systems, facilities, and properties.  

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

NOTE: THE BELOW DUTIES APPLY TO VARIOUS DEPARTMENTS IN THE CITY AND MAY OR MAY NOT APPLY TO THE DEPARTMENT YOU ARE HIRED FOR.

Perform manual labor as directed to accomplish all aspects of city tasks and projects.

Operate light vehicles in the transportation of various materials related to the general purpose of the position. 

Patch street holes; rake asphalt; sweep and shovel debris into trucks from gutters and grates; put up and take down traffic control devices.

Operate varied mobile equipment according to training and experience.

Assist in delivering all city services as assigned, including but not limited to installation, service and repair of streets, water and sewer lines, service lines, buildings, and facilities.

Assist in construction and demolition as assigned.  May include excavation and restoration of holes and trenches.

Assist in forming, pouring, and finishing of concrete curbs, gutters, drives and walks.

Assist in the laying out and striping of parking and cross walk lines; and operates striping paint machine.

Construct, install and maintain regulatory and safety signs.

Perform a variety of routine carpentry work in construction and repair of city buildings.

Mow and trim lawns and other areas assigned.

Assist in grave preparation and restoration.

Work on sprinkler systems and other irrigation devices.

Pull/cut weeds

Assist in tree planting, trimming and removal.

Pick up garbage/trash out of parks and public areas.

Assist in snow removal when needed.

Clean restrooms in parks and other public areas.

Work weekends or other shifts as needed.

Complete other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

Education and Experience:

A.    Graduation from High School or equivalent

OR

B.    Sufficient education, training, and experience to demonstrate an aptitude or ability to perform above and related duties;

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Some knowledge of the principles and techniques of general construction, maintenance and repair, including the operation of hand and power tools typical to building construction, maintenance, repair, and grounds upkeep.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
  • Ability to perform manual tasks for extended periods.
  • Ability to learn and follow safety practices common to construction occupations and equipment operation.
  • Ability to demonstrate good housekeeping skills in work areas/spaces and vehicles.

     

Special Qualifications

 

  • Must possess a valid Utah State Driver's License. 

     

Physical requirements and demands

 

  • This role requires moderate to heavy physical work. The employee is regularly required to move about, position self upon, and ascend/descend over and/or upon varying terrain, surfaces, and physical structures. The employee must operate, and activate controls for, various tools, machinery, and equipment. The employee must have the ability to observe their surroundings (including sounds and scents), inspect objects, and to communicate effectively in all mediums.
  • Must be able to frequently move objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Will work in varying weather conditions and extreme temperatures, and in conditions that may be wet or dry, and may include fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and raw sewage.
