Summary:

The Physical Therapist Assistant provides physical therapy services in accordance with the New Jersey practice act, the Bylaws of the Princeton HealthCare System, standards of accreditation and State regulatory bodies, and the Code of Ethics of the A.P.T.A. Physical therapy practice involves treatment and instruction of individuals for the prevention, habilitation or rehabilitation of physical disability, functional deficit, and/or pain. Such practice includes but is not limited to the following areas: acute care, orthopedics, neurology, geriatrics, pediatrics, cardiopulmonary, ob-gyn and oncology. It may also involve administration, education and research.

Responsibilities:

  1. Performs physical therapy interventions in a competent manner.

  2. Produces documentation to support the delivery of therapy services.

  3. Obtains accurate information by performing selected data collection consistent with the plan of care established by the physical therapist.

  4. Participates in patient status judgements within the clinical environment based on the plan of care established by the physical therapist.

Other Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Discusses the need for modification to the plan of care established by the physical therapist.

  2. Communicates in ways that are congruent with situational needs.

  3. Participates in addressing patient needs for services other than physical therapy.

  4. Educates others using relevant and effective teaching methods.

  5. Participates in fiscal management of the physical therapy clinical setting and maintains compliance with productivity standards of the department as specified in the staffing plan.

  6. Uses support personnel according to legal standards and ethical guidelines.

  7. Implements a self-directed plan for professional development and lifelong learning.

  8. Adapts delivery of care to reflect respect for and sensitivity to individual differences.

  9. Adheres to ethical practice standards.

  10. Supports customer service and performance improvement goals of the department; collaborates with other care givers/staff, within and outside the Department, to develop means of enhancing patient care and service and provides supportive and excellent service.

  11. Maintains standards of confidentiality.

  12. Age-Specific Knowledge & Skills – Possesses the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to meet patients’ physical, psychological and social needs with those growth and developmental levels/patient populations served within the department.

  13. Participates in unit compliance as related to established standards. Other duties and projects as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Education

  • Graduation from a physical therapy assistant program accredited by the A.P.T.A. or its equivalent if educated outside the U.S., indicates that the individual possesses the appropriate educational requirements.

  • Experience is preferred, but not necessary at entry level.
