The Company's position of Manager Tax Planning and Audits is part of a dynamic team comprised of highly skilled and motivated professionals that are committed to providing team members with a challenging and diverse tax work experience.

As a member of the Textron Tax Team, the Manager Tax Planning and Audits will support the creation, management and review of tax research and planning matters, collaborate on the review and in certain cases respond to tax audit requests (specifically State audits), review and analyze new legislation and other tax rule changes (U.S and non-U.S.); coordinate with the Tax Reporting and Compliance teams; and assist with the technical development of junior staff members. In addition, the Manager - Tax Research and Planning, is expected to communicate and collaborate with other members of the Tax Department's management in support of consistent tax practices and policies.

Responsibilities:

  • Review and coordinate with other Tax Department team members on IRS, State and non-U.S. government audit information requests.

  • Collaborate on the initiation, creation, management and review of tax research and planning matters.

  • Provide tax support for M&A transactions including structuring, scenario modeling, and due diligence.

  • Collaborate on the review and analysis of business unit transactions which requires:

  • Developing a deep knowledge of the businesses; and

  • Collaborating with business units to understand and uncover facts impacting Textron's effective tax rate and/or cash tax liabilities.

  • Contribute to the technical development of Tax Team staff members including the creation and execution of technical tax training.

  • Accountability for results of the above responsibilities.

  • Protect and maintain the privacy of employee personnel records including, but not limited to, personal and compensation information.

Qualifications

Skills/Competencies:

  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills coupled with the ability to use these skills to make quality decisions in a timely manner.

  • Excellent knowledge of U.S. and State tax rules and strong knowledge of income tax accounting rules.

  • Strong communication skills as evidenced by clear, effective verbal and written communication and taking responsibility for understanding others.

  • Highly developed project management skills as evidenced by experience with the creation, execution and management of complex tax transactions including the organization of people across different internal functions.

  • Advanced knowledge of federal and state income tax processes including corporate income tax forms, schedules and disclosure requirements, with the ability to apply this expertise in a business environment.

  • Must be comfortable dealing with ambiguity and new ideas, perspectives, strategies and positions.

  • Ability to develop and articulate ideas supporting leadership in strategy development and execution.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including experience modeling the tax impact of potential transactions.

  • Experienced with other Microsoft Office software including Word and Outlook.

Education/Experience:

  • 7-10 years of experience with some public accounting firm experience.

  • Knowledge of Subchapter C; and familiarity with State tax regimes.

  • Demonstrated experience with a tax department for a publicly traded U.S. based multinational.
