The Southern Colorado Institute of Transportation Technology is a state-sponsored institute located at Colorado State University Pueblo (https://www.csupueblo.edu/institute-of-transportation/index.html). The vision of the Institute is to become a versatile and responsive leader in education, training, and research that supports transformative transportation solutions. The mission of the Institute is comprehensive and includes education, training, and research. The Institute's current interests include ground and intermodal transportation systems' innovation, safety, and security.

The Institute partners with the Federal Railroad Administration's Transportation Technology Center just outside Pueblo, Colorado, and is also a member of the prestigious enter for Surface Transportation Testing and Academic Research (C-STTAR) consortium of eight universities and academic research centers, including the University of South Florida Center for Urban Transportation Research, Michigan Technological University, the University of Hawaii, Michigan State University, the Mineta Transportation Institute at San Jose State University, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Oregon State University. In addition, the Institute works closely with its local and state partners, ENSCO, Inc., MxV Rail, and the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Description of Job

The primary duties included in this position may be modified to suit the skills of the applicant and the changing priorities of the Institute, but will focus on the general topics of transportation education, training, research, and service. Such activities may include developing and aiding in teaching transportation-related coursework, developing and leading student training activities, performing funded research activities, preparing proposals for external funding, helping develop a national conference, etc. The proportion of the duty components may be modified as the Institute grows.

This position offers a candidate a unique opportunity to take a high-level role in the early development of a transportation institute and valuable experience, especially for those interested in advancing faculty careers to higher level in the university.

This position is funded by Vision 2028 and the initial appointment is until May 31, 2025. Renewal of position funding is contingent upon the candidate's performance, continued funding of the project, budgetary approvals, and university fiscal sustainability.

Primary Duties

  • Developing and teaching academic coursework and training opportunities in the transportation-related sciences and engineering field for undergraduate and graduate students as guided by the institute director.

  • Research activities including research development, and administrative duties as guided by the Institute director.

Salary

$66,200-$70,000

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in the broader field of Transportation Engineering or related from an accredited institution at the time of hire

  • Expertise in any one or more broader areas of:

  • Transportation planning

  • Traffic engineering

  • Railway engineering

  • Pavement engineering

  • Alternate fuels

  • A record of scholarly publications

  • Demonstrated ability to relate to and commitment to serving diverse populations and learners.

Preferred Qualifications

  • EIT certification

  • Experience in teaching or preparing lectures and mentoring students in university level

  • Experience in a position requiring excellent written and spoken communication skills

  • Experience working in a team environment as well as in an independent capacity
