Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories Hardware Engineer - FPGA Design in Pullman, Washington

SEL’s R&D Communications, Networking, and Precise Time Group is searching for a FPGA Design Engineer to join our growing team. We design, build and test communications products for industrial and utility market with an emphasis on quality, reliability and performance. In this role, you will be working on innovative RTL designs for Rugged Ethernet Switches, Satellite Clocks, software-defined networking and other communication products with industry leading performance and cybersecurity.

As a Hardware Engineer, a typical day might include the Following:

  • Writing, reviewing, testing, and deploying RTL code, usually in VHDL.

  • Working with one of several FPGA-based communications products made by SEL.

  • Some designs include Ethernet switching fabrics, software-defined networking, protocol converters, high accuracy timing systems, algorithm design, and more.

  • Time in our fully-equipped R&D labs, with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and specialized test equipment to physically validate your design in hardware.

This Job might be for you if:

  • You have a B.S. degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • You have experience in at least 2 of the following areas:

  • o Digital Design with FPGAs using VHDL/Verilog

  • o Xilinx/Intel/Microchip FPGA Tools

  • o Simulation, Synthesis and Timing Analysis of Digital Logic

  • o Verification and Validation

  • o Electronic Circuit Design

  • o Firmware Design with Microcontrollers/Microprocessors using C/C++

  • You have strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.

  • You are passionate about RTL digital logic design for FPGA based systems.

  • You enjoy solving difficult problems with efficient and creative solutions involving multiple disciplines.

    We anticipate filling this position as a Hardware Engineer $$(88,000) - $$ (108,000). We are open to reviewing additional candidates with more or less experience and the salary range may differ if filled at a different level. Our salary ranges are determined by job, responsibility, and location. We base our starting pay offer and title on location and job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
