Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York/CUNY. LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree and certificate programs, as well as dozens of workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 25,000 students. More than one-third of our degree-seeking students were born outside of the United States, coming to LaGuardia from 136 countries and speaking forty-three heritage languages. More than half are first-generation college students. Sixty-nine percent live in Queens; the rest live in Brooklyn and beyond. Approximately two-thirds of our degree students receive financial aid. LaGuardia CARES is seeking a dedicated and skilled Office Coordinator to manage daily operations, support strategic initiatives, and enhance service delivery for students. This role requires working knowledge and experience in grant reporting, partnership development, and program coordination. The ideal candidate is an experienced administrative coordinator who excels in organization, communication, and leadership while contributing to the overall mission of student success. Reporting to the LaGuardia CARES Director, the Administrative Coordinator will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Provide administrative support to ensure the smooth daily operations of the CARES office;

  • Coordinate office schedules, meetings, and maintaining departmental calendars;

  • Support the implementation of office policies and procedures to improve workflow;

  • Coordinate the onboarding and training of office staff, volunteers, or student workers as needed;

  • Maintain organized records, documents, and compliance with institutional policies;

  • Track and order office supplies, ensuring cost-effective procurement;

  • Help maintain relationships with community organizations, vendors, and stakeholders;

  • Serve as a point of contact for student inquiries, offering guidance on available services;

  • Assist with food pantry operations, including inventory tracking and order processing;

  • Review and process emergency assistance applications while maintaining confidentiality;

  • Provide students with basic guidance on financial aid processes and public benefits applications (e.g., SNAP, childcare, transportation);

  • Provide administrative support for data collection, strategic planning, and new initiatives;

  • Assist in resolving operational challenges and implementing office improvements;

  • Support the planning and coordination of new programs and initiatives for student success;

  • Help align program activities with institutional goals and community needs.

  • Coordinate and assist with promoting large-scale campus-wide events such as New Student Orientation (NSO) and Weeks of Welcome.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree required.

  • Updates office databases, lists, and files to ensure completeness and accuracy; maintains current information on department web site(s); maintains department archives and collections.

  • Conducts internet and/or database research and performs basic systems queries to locate information related to department activities.

  • Maintains department fiscal plans and budgets; assists in budget administration and invoice processing.

  • Provides basic information, instructions, and materials as requested by students, faculty, and others who contact the department.

  • May supervise office staff and student workers.

  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Salary: $47,861 - $63,094

Salary commensurate with education and experience.
