Your Opportunity
Stantec is seeking a Junior Hydrologist/Water Resources Technologist/Water Resource Engineer-in-Training to work as an integrated member of our Water Resources Team in British Columbia. The ideal candidate has experience completing fieldwork related to hydrology, and familiarity with water resources science or engineering. As a Junior Hydrologist/Water Resources Technologist/Water Resource Engineer-in-Training, you will conduct exciting work with multi-disciplinary teams on various projects across Canada. The successful candidate will join a team that works together to foster a collaborative culture with a focus on communication, mentorship and opportunity.
Your Key Responsibilities
Conduct independent hydrology fieldwork with either on-site or remote support and supervision from experienced team members
Manage and interpret field data
Use specialized equipment and software
Assist with hydrologic and hydraulic assessments, water resource permitting applications and environmental impact assessments
Write technical memorandums and contribute to reports such as Environmental Assessments, Technical Data Reports, and Permitting Applications
Support development of proposals
Actively participate in Stantec’s Health, Safety, Security, and Environment Program to promote a strong health and safety culture
Perform tasks, as requested, efficiently and accurately, using standard methods and techniques
Qualifications
Your Capabilities and Credentials
A basic understanding of the general concepts of hydrology and water resource related civil engineering principles
A British Columbia professional/technologist designation is required (in-training registration is sufficient)
Knowledge of various hydrologic or hydraulic and statistical software (e.g., Aquarius, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, R) and GIS or other similar software and working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to manage time to meet project schedules and budgets
Superior and demonstrated verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks
Possess a valid driver’s license and willing to travel within BC and Canada to remote locations as required
Able to endure long days of physically and mentally challenging field work while maintaining a positive, solutions-focused attitude
Excellent navigational skills and ability to troubleshoot equipment and solve problems in the field
Application of geospatial databases and big-data management including statistical analyses, advanced programming and/or water quality experience are considered assets
Education and Experience
Applicants must be registered, or eligible to register with Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia as an EIT or GIT, or with ASTTBC as an AScT immediately
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in applied science, science related to water resources, civil or environmental engineering, or a technical diploma with 2 years of hydrology related experience
Valid safety training certificates relevant to field work (first aid, auxiliary vehicles, boating, etc.) are an asset
Typical office environment involves working with computers and remaining relatively sedentary. Field work may include exposure to the elements, including inclement weather and rough terrain, and requirements to lift items and equipment up to 50 lbs. Stantec offers a flexible work arrangement for desk-based tasks, combining home-based and office-based time.

Salary Range(s):
- Lower Mainland $60,200/BC Other Areas $56,800 - Lower Mainland $84,300/BC Other Areas $79,500 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in BC (Lower Mainland includes Vancouver & Burnaby)
The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
