Trans Ash Shop Manager (Miller Steam Plant) in Quinton, Alabama

We're seeking an experienced full-time Shop Manager at the Miller Steam Plant in Quinton, Alabama. As the Shop Manager, you'll be involved in hiring, supervising, training maintenance employees, and overseeing shop operations.

    Job Summary

    The Shop Manager is responsible for monitoring the work of maintenance employees using operating procedures, advanced expertise, and technical skills gained through knowledge of heavy equipment and/or truck diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance experience. The Shop Manager will also be responsible for training maintenance employees to build the technical skills of their team.

    Essential Functions

  • Directly supervises the work of the mechanics, lube techs, and parts runner, ensuring that work is assigned according to skill.

  • Manage daily work schedules of staff ensuring the proper level of staffing.

  • Provides technical feedback to staff on job performance and conducts training with staff to improve the overall effectiveness of the work performed by mechanics and lube techs.

  • Maintain adequate skilled staffing by recruiting, interviewing, selecting, orienting, and training employees.

  • Stays current and updates the team on new technology and equipment standards.

  • Documents and handles disciplinary and other corrective actions up to and including terminations.

  • Responsible for the proper documentation and record keeping of all work orders, maintenance files, timecards, and other shop-related paperwork

  • Responsible for timely and clear communications between onsite personnel, corporate staff, and external suppliers.

  • Responsible for maintaining the office, shop, and yard in an organized and efficient manner to best facilitate workflow.

  • Oversite responsibilities for the adherence to all policies and procedures of both the customer and the company to ensure a safe, secure, and legal work environment.

  • Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the company's discretion.

    Job Requirements and Qualifications

    Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

    Training Requirements:

  • Trans Ash will provide the necessary safety training for the job.

    Knowledge Requirements:

  • Competency with heavy equipment and/or truck diagnostics and repairs.

  • Proficient with business software: MS Windows, Outlook, Email, Excel, and Word.

    Experience:

  • Minimum of five years of managerial experience in a shop preferred, directing the work of others in adherence to operating procedures with solid technical skills gained through heavy equipment and/or truck diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance experience.

    Other Information:

  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, and lifting.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb, operate vehicles and small equipment.

  • Local applicants are preferred.

  • Must be able to work in a construction environment.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

  • Be at least 18 years of age.

  • Must be able to successfully pass a drug test, MVR, and background check.
