Join a Top 10 global design firm in our Texas buildings practice that provides Architecture, Buildings Engineering, and Interior Design services with a long history and deep commitment to the education sector. Our Houston office is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our team.

The role of a Senior Structural Engineer is to work independently and to lead projects of all sizes and work as a team member on large projects. The Senior Structural Engineer should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer all engineered systems or products for a project. A Senior Structural Engineer will perform a variety of tasks which may include Revit design, calculations, and field work. This person will supervise the work of other structural engineers and structural designers.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Development of a design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats.

  • Utilize BIM in the development of three-dimensional models of buildings structural systems and provides markups for junior engineers/designers.

  • Prepare and revises documentation in various structural phases including foundation plans, framing plans, and details.

  • Coordinate with other disciplines (architectural, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, civil, etc.) to ensure compatibility with the design intent.

  • Lead project coordination and meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, Owner and contractor, subcontractors, and vendors.

  • Review shop drawings and submittals, responds to requests for information, prepares site observation reports, and performs other contract administration tasks.

  • Evaluate and select structural systems and materials.

  • Perform and oversees the performance of calculations using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software.

  • Utilize advanced techniques to apply engineering principles beyond the scope of typical structural engineering software.

  • Responsible for the review and/or sealing of projects from other structural engineers

  • Meet with clients and review projects as required

  • Must communicate design issues and solutions well with the design team and clients

  • Must have good understanding of the design process, understand how buildings are built, and have the ability to understand important architectural features during design stages.

  • Be able to develop project scope, budgets, and design approach for all size projects.

  • Assist with development of design standards

  • Assist PM’s and PIC’s with the development of proposal.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of structural design codes, standards, and applicable building codes

  • Strong understanding of all phases of project document production and the relationship between drawings and specifications

  • Strong knowledge of structural systems, means and methods, materials, and industry standards

  • Ability to lead one or more teams through all phases of project document production

  • Checks the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manages time to meet project budget and schedule

  • Participates and collaborates in project team setting and to engage in creative and critical thought

  • Thorough understanding of structural engineering concepts and ability to communicate ideas to others

  • Strong presentation skills

  • Working Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit and structural engineering analysis software such as RAM, Tekla, or RISA and prefer experience with BlueBeam, AutoCAD, Newforma, and Component Design Software.

  • Reporting Structure

  • This position reports to the Houston Structural Engineering Team Leader.

  • This position will be accountable to the Texas business center Structural Engineering Design Leader.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering or related field. Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Texas. Minimum of 10 years of experience in structural design and analysis. Experience with low-rise construction and steel, masonry and concrete building systems.
