This Opportunity

WSP has a new opportunity for an experienced and motivated Geological Engineer/Engineering Geologist to join the Geoscience Team in our Redmond, WA office.

We are looking for a self-motivated individual who would enjoy joining a team of geologists and geophysicists who are focused on client needs in the geosciences. Enjoy working in a team, setting goals, and working with senior colleagues to provide mentoring and growth opportunities to our junior staff. We are looking for someone who is client focused, delivers quality consulting services, and works to grow the client and project opportunities for the Geoscience Team and the office.

Your Impact

  • Plan and manage simple and complex subsurface field geologic exploration programs including drilling and test pit explorations.

  • Provide interpretation of subsurface conditions and develop conceptual geologic models.

  • Review geologic samples and assign geologic unit identification, assign laboratory testing, and supervise the preparation of exploration records.

  • Geologic field reconnaissance and mapping for the identification of geologic hazards.

  • Proficiency and familiarity with rock mass characterization and all rock and soil logging processes.

  • Provide final interpretation of core, televiewer, and hole alignment data.

  • Ability to act as liaison between project staff, client and subcontractors.

  • Provide direction on the installation of monitoring wells and geotechnical instrumentation (VWP’s, inclinometers, transducers etc.).

  • Conduct geologic research, write, and review project proposals.

  • Interpret geologic data and write and review geotechnical and geologic reports.

  • Provide technical direction and oversight as well as mentoring and training to junior-level WSP staff.

Who Are You

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences or Geological Engineering required.

  • Minimum of 5 years relevant post education experience.

  • Valid LEG, PE, or LG in Washington state or ability to obtain it.

  • Experience managing simple to complex subsurface investigations including drilling, soil classification, monitoring well installation and instrumentation.

  • Excellent communication and writing skills.

  • Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.

  • Candidates must be willing to work in the field conducting physically rigorous field geologic data collection in a variety of terrain and weather conditions.

  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Experience in planning and executing field exploration programs, writing proposals and reports, and managing client and project deliverables.

  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, computations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree is strongly preferred.

  • 8+ years of relevant post education experience.

  • Existing strong client relationships in the relative sectors.

  • Experience with tunneling, rock mass characterization, grouting and foundation design and improvement.

  • Track record of successful and strong business development activities.

  • Experience with management of mid to large-size, multi-disciplinary projects.

  • Specialized computer skills including database applications, AutoCAD, 3D modeling, GIS, Openground and/or gINT.

Compensation and Benefits:

WSP provides a comprehensive suite of benefits including medical, dental, vision, disability, life, and retirement savings focused on a providing health and financial stability throughout the employee’s career.

Expected Salary: $99,700 - $131,000

WSP USA is providing the compensation range and general description of other compensation and benefits that the company in good faith believes it might pay and/or offer for this position based on the successful applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location.
