We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join our team! Microsoft Azure Edge + Platform (E+P) is a globally distributed team of engineers, architects, program managers, product managers, business program managers, business administrators, user experience researchers and designers who are responsible for the platform for Microsoft and for delivering Microsoft’s edge vision. Responsibilities

As a Principal Software Engineer on the team, you will help develop world-class services that power the Autonomous Edge platform. We are looking for solid developers with the passion to research new areas, write clean and optimal code, enhance coding standards, ship fast and be customer obsessed. We follow short, frequent release cycles with room for innovation in multiple areas. As a team, we welcome smart, motivated engineers, with a positive attitude and growth mindset, ready to translate ambiguity into concrete elegant deliverables that move the needle for the customer.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 6+ years of experience building reliable, distributed systems at scale

  • Experience with technical design, problem solving, and debugging skills

Other Requirements:

  • Cloud Background check: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience designing and building distributed systems

  • Experience with key business problems and opportunities, and for setting and driving towards measurable goals

  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and a great teammate.

  • Experience with collaboration and organizational skills with demonstrated ability to develop key partnerships

  • Great analytical skills, and high intellectual horsepower

  • Rust, Go, JSON/XML/YAML, REST, Web API experience would be useful

  • Knowledge of Azure, Google Compute Platform or Amazon Web Services is desirable

Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year.
