SR. HARDWARE DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER, MIRCO-ELECTRONICS (OPTICAL PRODUCTS)
The Starlink space lasers team develops manufacturing and testing solutions for the most cutting-edge satellite communication systems in the world. We are looking for an innovative and experienced hardware development engineer to drive complex manufacturing problems to resolution. On the space lasers team, you will design and deploy production processes to manufacture and test micro-electronic devices for satellites. Our engineers are endlessly curious, love to learn and try out new things, and work collaboratively across disciplines in a dynamic environment with changing needs as we strive to deliver high-impact technology on a global scale.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Design manufacturing and tests systems for high volume manufacturing of opto-electronic and micro-electronic devices
Lead trade studies to inform program level decisions both for manufacturing solutions and hardware design choices
Lead root cause investigations on non-conforming hardware to drive product improvement
Develop statistical process control models and procedures for high volume production
Work with adjacent teams to bring development processes to full scale production and track product outcomes
Identify trends and opportunities for optimizing product output, quality enhancements, and cost of manufacturability
Drive corrective actions and process improvements on owned processes and products
Own hardware reliability at all stages of product lifecycle from piece part manufacturing to flight
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in electrical or micro-electronic engineering, software, physics or a related engineering discipline
5+ years of experience in one of the following areas: micro-electronics manufacturing, PCBA manufacturing, SMT, PCBA design
Programming Experience in C/C++/Python
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Master's degree or PhD in an engineering discipline or physics
Experience with micro-electronics manufacturing processes (die/wire bonding)
Experience with electro-optical device manufacturing
Experience with PCBA design
High volume production experience (consumer goods, automotive, etc.)
Hands-on experience working in SMT processing and/or related PCBA processes from industry, research, or academic projects
Experience with environmental testing of electronic devices
RF testing experience
Strong desire and ability to learn quickly, adapt and innovate
Knowledge of statistical analyses and statistical process control
Experience with basic failure analysis tools and methods (X-ray, cross-section, SAM)
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
Ability to work both autonomously and as a team in a highly demanding, fast-paced environment
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to life heavy objects, up to 25 Ibs. unassisted
Willing to work weekend and extended hours as needed

Pay range:
Hardware Development Engineer/ Senior: $130,000- $180,000.00/per year
Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
