Microsoft Corporation Technical Program Manager in Redmond, Washington

We’re looking for a Responsible AI (RAI) Technical Program Manager to join the Compliance team in the Technology & Research division at Microsoft. The Technology & Research division is the parent organization of Microsoft Research (MSR) that consists of over 1000 people working on cutting edge science. You will guide teams in Responsible AI (RAI) practices by providing RAI review and consultation services for both research and incubation offerings.

You will work directly with the RAI Division Lead to translate corporate policy into effective controls and scalable implementation practices to meet our unique business needs. You should be comfortable dealing with ambiguity, working in a rapidly changing research ecosystem, while assessing the potential risks and impacts of Artificial Intelligence (AI) projects. To be successful, embracing a growth mindset and adjust to evolving expectations is important. You should be able to influence without authority, and to represent your work well to partners and leaders in both technical and non-technical roles.

  • Manage and prioritize a consistent queue of Responsible AI projects.

  • Perform Responsible AI reviews of impact assessments and transparency documentation.

  • Quickly assess projects for Responsible AI risk factors and appropriate tasks to comply with the Responsible AI Standard.

  • Provide project teams with specific, actionable feedback promptly to optimize review time.

  • Contribute to the development of Responsible AI guidelines, and best practices for the Technology & Research Division.

  • Contribute to the practical implementation of Responsible AI guidelines within the Technology and Research Division.

  • Work effectively with compliance peers to identify cross-compliance area risks and mitigations. Stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices in AI governance.

  • Contribute to Responsible AI community development.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field and 2+ years’ experience in product/service/research/project/program management or software development

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 1+ year(s) of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

  • Familiarity working with AI technologies, particularly generative AI, and awareness of the latest trends and developments in the field.

  • Experience managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders and dependencies. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or related field and 4+ years’ experience in product/service/project/program management or software development

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • Experience working in a research environment.

  • Demonstrated interest and/or expertise in Ethics/Responsible AI.

  • Experience working in a compliance role.

  • Experience with privacy policy, practices or reviews.

Technical Program Management IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 - $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 - $198,600 per year.
