Job Responsibilities/Duties
Hanford Tank Waste Operations & Closure (H2C), the prime contractor for Tank Operations Contract, delivers exceptional performance in safely removing, treating, and disposing of tank waste. H2C leads the nation's largest and most complex radioactive waste cleanup, including closure of the legacy waste tanks at Hanford containing 56 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste. The Quality Assurance (QA) Engineer for H2C is responsible for providing quality assurance engineering services in support of the Integrated Tank Disposition Contract (ITDC) activities.
The specific duties and responsibilities of the Quality Assurance Engineer include but are not limited to:
-Possesses and applies comprehensive QA knowledge to the completion of significant assignments.
-Demonstrates understanding of the application of Documented Safety Analysis (DSA) and Technical Safety Requirements (TSR) and can review and approve safety basis documents.
-Plan, schedule, and participate/lead QA program audits, surveillances and assessments in support of assessment and corrective action programs.
-Assist with the performance of effective Management/ Independent assessments. Implementation of appropriate management requested bias based surveillance and audit activities to investigate improvement opportunities or negative activities/trends related to ongoing or past project or vendor performance.
-Provides leadership for new systems, development, proposals, implementation, procedures, and any related quality activity.
-Makes frequent decisions using principles and professional independent judgment.
-Develops and applies advanced quality theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of complex and advanced technical problems on the forefront of new technologies.
-Analyzes, evaluates, and plans methods of approach and organizes means to achieve solution of complex technical problems.
-Conducts investigations and tests of considerable complexity and reviews complex projects, processes and evaluates results.
-Evaluates vendor capabilities to provide required products or services.
-May specialize in particular area of quality engineering, such as chemistry, environmental science, process control, supplier evaluation, research and development, laboratory quality, or administrative application.
-Provides technical consultation to lower-level engineers, technicians, and inspectors.
-Technically supervises quality projects or major phases of significant quality projects, coordinating the efforts of technical support staff in the performance of assigned project.
-Provides leadership for quality assurance and quality control support on assigned program(s) and/or areas to ensure that products are designed, procured, and installed in accordance with customer and company quality requirements.
Required Qualifications
Grade 20:
Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Engineering, Science or related field and 10 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Grade 21:
Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in Engineering, Science or related field and 12 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Note the essential duties for this grade level are like that of the previous grade level, however the scope of responsibility is larger, and the expected level of performance is increased.
Desired Qualifications
-Qualified QA Engineer
-Certified NQA-1 Lead Auditor
-Experience working at the Hanford Tank Farms, in a similar Department of Energy (DOE) environment, or a nuclear facility.
