JT4 Instrumentation Engineer in Ridgecrest, California

JT4 LLC, China Lake, is seeking skilled and knowledgeable Instrumentation Engineers IV to enhance our growing team. These engineers will require the ability to apply excellent critical thinking skills and a high level of numeracy.The engineers will provide support with the planning, design, development and installation of new processes and systems.They will need to possess strong team working skills with an ability to motivate others and to lead or manage teams and projects.

JT4 stands for Joint - Test, Tactics, Training, and Technology and was established in 2001. JT4 is a Department of Defense contractor that provides test engineering support services for the Navy, Air Force, and Space Force with approximately 2000 employees. Our corporate office is in Las Vegas NV and we have operations at seven testing ranges in the Western region. We're looking for highly motivated individuals with a deep patriotic calling to support our national defense against adversaries with the opportunity to work with state-of-the-art electronic warfare technology.

Range Specific Requirements

Instrumentation Engineer shall be knowledgeable about how fielded sensors work, the data required to operate those sensors, the data transport and how the data will be received and transmitted by Command and Control facilities. The candidate will require knowledge about instrumentation sensors which include remote radars, scientific remote pan/tilt/zoom high speed cameras, on/off/trigger of remote devices, airborne and ground based geolocation systems, flight termination systems and telemetry. The candidate will require knowledge about the data required to operate those sensors to include compressed and uncompressed video, scientific camera data types and operations, Inter Range Interoperability Group (IRIG) instrumentation data standards, DoD range data distribution, remote radar command and control, remote airborne geolocation device command and control, remote telemetry command and control, video over internet protocol standards, remote and local instrumentation data storage and data latency characterization and effects. The candidate shall also require knowledge on how the central command and control facilities will operate instrumentation to include human interfaces, required data center software requirements and resources and a general knowledge of test and evaluation operations.

Job Summary -- Essential Functions/Duties

An Instrumentation Engineer serves as a principal investigator and individual contributor to contract research, development, integration, and sustainment projects.

Employee will be responsible to perform the following functions/duties:

  • Develop and apply advanced methods, theories, and research techniques in the investigation and solution of complex and difficult system design requirements and problems
  • Conduct investigations of considerable complexity
  • Provide technical consultation to other organizations or customers
  • Direct interface with internal and external customers at all levels from quotation to final design
  • Act as liaison for test activities, design reviews, and technical working group meetings to comply with requirements and specifications
  • Plan, conduct, and technically direct projects or major phases of significant projects requiring the expert application of advanced knowledge
  • Review completion and implementation of systems additions and/or enhancements and recommend corrections in technical application and analysis to management
  • Represent the company as technical advisor in high-level meetings and briefings with company and customer personnel
  • Prepare, deliver, and submit technical papers and perform engineering studies
  • Support development of technical proposals and provide comments on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work
  • Act as a company/industry expert resource on the most complex engineering problems
  • Main ain technical project responsibility for assigned tasks and advise management of progress in support of the technical and administrative direction of project operations
  • Conduct site visits and experimental investigations and analyze engineering problems, propose solutions and alternatives, and provide recommendations
  • Develop, interpret, and implement technical and administrative operating policies and procedures
  • Perform other job-related duties, as required.

Requirements -- Education, Technical, and Work Experience

Engineer IV:A Bachelor of Science in engineering from an ABET-accredited academic institution and 14 years of related engineering experience, or an accredited Master of Science in engineering and a minimum of 10 years of related engineering experience, or an accredited doctorate degree in engineering and a minimum of eight years of related engineering experience are required for this position.

In addition, anEngineer IVmust possess the following qualifications:

  • Well-established, substantial, professional reputation in one or more of the principal technical disciplines of the company
  • Demonstrated ability to direct senior technical personnel in project assignments involving research, development, integration, and sustainment of complex systems or processes
  • Working knowledge of computer systems and computer-based engineering tools
  • Superior communications skills, both verbal and written, in day-to-day project activities as well as in briefing customers and in writing reports and proposals
  • Planning/organizational skills and the ability to work under deadlines.
