Boehringer Ingelheim Scientist III/IV, In Vitro Research Beyond Borders in Ridgefield, Connecticut

Description

Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a driven and innovative Scientist III/IV to join the Research Beyond Borders department in Ridgefield, CT. In this role, the individual will use their experience working with in vitro systems to perform experiments that support our research efforts. Leveraging their hands-on skills, the individual will develop and validate assays based on functional, biochemical, and immunological techniques to support exploratory biology and advance our lead research. The individual will participate in the design and execution of routine and non-routine experiments and perform all work in conformance with applicable regulations and in a safe manner. This position requires strong technical proficiency, a passion for learning and applying new skills, and the ability to work as part of a team.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Initiates, designs, accurately interprets, troubleshoots, and completes routine and non-routine procedures/experiments independently and efficiently. Demonstrates the ability to interrogate outcome of experiments and to propose appropriate follow-up

• Uses various molecular/immunological/biochemical techniques to develop and validate complex assays using mammalian cells and tissues to interrogate biological pathways of interest and support emerging biological concepts

• Independently applies basic scientific principles with minimal guidance; Presents and defends scientific findings in project teams or departmental meetings

• Proposes, evaluates, and implements new technologies; performs literature searches, attends scientific meetings, and keeps abreast of literature in own field

• Communicates own work effectively orally and in writing; Contributes to writing protocols, procedures, technical reports, and publications

• Complies with applicable regulations, performing all work in a safe manner while maintaining proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies

Requirements

• Proficiency with flow cytometry techniques

• Hands on experience with culturing cells (primary and cell lines) and experience processing tissues for cell isolation or other downstream applications. Experience working with more complex culture systems such as organoids or co-culture systems would be a plus

• Demonstrated ability working with cell-based assays and molecular biology techniques including, but not limited to, immunoassays (ELISA, Immunohistochemistry, Western Blots), flow cytometry and fluorescent activated cell sorting (FACS), RNA processing and qPCR

• Has a sustained record of applying knowledge of basic theory and scientific principles to conducting in vitro research and experimentation.

• Ability to function in multi-disciplinary teams

• Ability to create written scientific reports and protocols; Strong verbal communication skills are required; Reports and treats data with a high level of integrity and ethics

• This role requires a highly motivated, dependable, and well-organized individual who can operate with minimal supervision

• Industry experience preferred

Scientist III Requirements:

• Master's Degree from an accredited institution with three-plus (3+) years of experience in related scientific discipline, OR Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution with seven-plus (7+) years of experience in related scientific discipline or equivalent experience.

Scientist IV Requirements:

• Master's Degree from an accredited institution with six-plus (6+) years of experience in related scientific discipline, OR Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution with seven-plus (10+) years of experience in related scientific discipline or equivalent experience.

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively across a number of diverse projects to advance new therapeutic concepts.

• Demonstrated ability to help train junior level scientists in the design and interpretation of in vitro experiments.

Compensation:

 This position, Scientist III, offers a base salary typically between $75,000. and $147,000.  The position may be eligible for a role specific variable or performance based bonus and or other compensation elements. For an overview of our benefits please click here.
