Job Summary

Responsible for directing and coordinating an equipment maintenance facility and/or meter lab while economically extending the life of various types of electrical equipment. Coordinate the inspection, testing, and repairing of electrical equipment such as transformers, reclosers, regulators, meters, distribution controls, tools, and instruments. Monitor testing and evaluation of all new meter devices throughout the AEP System, including development, testing, and implementation of new metering concepts; acquisition of meters and maintenance of appropriate meter stock inventories and coordinating the shipping and transferring of meters and metering equipment to other areas of the company; assisting in the development of the operation and maintenance and capital budgets for meter and repair operations; and providing support and training programs for assigned personnel and others performing work on customer meter and repair installations; and maintenance of meter and repair records. Promote system reliability by evaluating trends, setting repair direction, and influencing equipment purchases.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1) Plan, assign, schedule, and coordinate work performed by mechanics in equipment repair facilities and meter activities in the meter lab; work with supervisors, coordinators, mechanics, and meter operations employees in performance of assigned duties, providing assistance as required.

2) Coordinate and manage inventory of spare parts and equipment necessary to support repair and maintenance activities.

3) Coordinate the acquisition and maintenance of meter inventories in a manner to keep inventories to a minimum, including procurement of proper material, tools, and equipment as required for the installation of measurement facilities and distribution controls and coordinating the shipping and transferring of meters and metering equipment to other areas of the company.

4) Procure materials, equipment, tools, and spare parts; inspect tools and equipment to ensure proper and safe working condition.

5) Work with other equipment maintenance facilities to establish repair standards, develop annual work plans, and long-range direction.

6) Develop and maintain effective relationships with operating company personnel, associated business development customers, support vendors, and internal/external material suppliers.

7) Effectively monitor work quality while communicating with customers to resolve problems and to enhance repair standards.

8) Oversee the testing and evaluation of all new meter devices for potential use on the AEP System.

9) Assist with the development, testing, and implementation of new metering concepts.

10) Oversee the meter testing program, including testing of meters, metering equipment, and instrument transformers in conformance with AEP standards and the standards of state regulatory groups.

11) Coordinate the installation and proper operation, inspection, and maintenance of distribution control equipment with region personnel, providing functional guidance as required.

12) Oversee the preparation of records, studies, and reports pertaining to equipment repair and meter operations, utilizing the available work management systems to maximize the effectiveness of equipment repair and meter activities.

13) Provide assistance in the preparation of the equipment repair and the meter operations and maintenance and capital budgets; monitor expenditures and initiate purchase requisitions, work orders, and improvement requisitions, as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education requirements are listed below: Associates degree in business, electrical, electronic, mechanical technology, or equivalent education and/or experience.

Work Experience requirement listed below: Three years' experience in the equipment repair facility processes and/or measurements, engineering, meter labs, or the equivalent in knowledge and experience.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Physical demand level is Sedentary

  1. Must exhibit skills pertaining to leadership, supervision, team building, and safety.

  2. Must have experience in the administration of shop, meter lab, engineering, and business matters using Excel, Word, and passport.

  3. Some travel required.
