Function of Position:
Adjunct faculty members report to the Chairperson of the Hospitality Department and the Adjunct Coordinator for their discipline. Adjunct faculty teach department courses in Hospitality or Restaurant management and evaluate student performance per guidelines set by the department and Monroe Community College. Adjunct faculty are responsible for preparing lesson plans, creating appropriate teaching aids and providing students with instructional materials and activities during class. Courses in the department will be assigned at the Brighton Campus. Day or evening courses may be assigned. Adjunct faculty must maintain accurate records on students and submit pertinent data to the department and/or the college, including, but not limited to, attendance information, course information sheets, final exams, and final grades.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary Functions:
Provides students with appropriate learning materials and expertise in Hospitality and Restaurant management.
Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of the Hospitality and Restaurant industry.
Encourages students' participation in class activities.
Identifies learning objectives and evaluates student performance based on objectives.
Prepares course syllabus and outlines.
Establishes and maintains an organized and disciplined classroom environment.
Provides students with assistance and guidance.
Adheres to all college and departmental policies.
Provides timely submission of all required paperwork/information as required by the department or College.
Responsible for adhering to the College Code of Conduct.
Responsible for contributing to and maintaining an inclusive and collaborative College environment.
Responsible for maintaining technological competencies utilized by the College.

Required Qualifications:
Earned bachelor's degree in Hospitality management, Restaurant management, Food Service management or related field from a regionally accredited higher education institution.
Minimum of three years of relevant experience in the Hospitality, or Restaurant industry, as it relates to the course, or courses taught.
Minimum of three years of teaching or training experience.
Thorough knowledge of the assigned course curriculum with the ability to effectively teach.
Proven ability to work as an enthusiastic team member.
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form.
Be creative, energetic, and a self-motivated individual with demonstrated organizational, leadership, and supervisory skills.
Computer proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications:
Earned Master's degree in Hospitality, or related field from a regionally accredited higher education institution.
High school or college level teaching/training experience, or equivalent industry experience.
Knowledge of, or experience in, implementing a variety of teaching strategies.
Evidence of effective communication (interpersonal, speaking, and writing) skills.
Professional affiliations and/or certifications.
Additional Information:
Pay Rate for Fall 2024 & Spring 2025: Determined on adjunct rank and ranges from $1,181- $1,441 per contact hour.

Monroe Community College is seeking a pool of qualified applicants for possible temporary part-time faculty teaching assignments. These positions are filled on an as needed basis and are on-going recruitment efforts. Adjunct pools are open continuously and applicants are contacted/hired year-round for assignments based on college needs.
