The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry is accepting applications for the position of General Psychiatry Residency Program Director. This position is for a full-time Clinician-Educator at the rank of Associate or full Professor. This role reports directly to the Chair and Associate Chair for Education, as well as to our institutional Office of GME and the ACGME. The successful candidate will lead our talented team of faculty educators who embrace the Biopsychosocial Model of clinical care, education and scholarship, which was first articulated and developed at the University of Rochester. Institutional support is provided for administration of the program, educational innovation, curriculum development, and mentoring of our 32 residents. The Program Director is supported by faculty members who excel in their fields and are deeply dedicated to training the next generation of outstanding psychiatrists.

Our Department's long-standing values—compassion, dedication, personal integrity, an emphasis on education, and a constant striving for professional excellence—form the foundation for our residency program where our primary goal is to develop psychiatrists who have medical knowledge, clinical maturity and personal confidence to function at the highest levels in their chosen career paths. Many of our residents continue training in subspecialty fellowships, and University of Rochester has ACGME Fellowships in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry, Consultation and Liaison Psychiatry, Geriatric Psychiatry, and Addiction Psychiatry. After completing training, graduates have robust clinical practices in community settings, hospital settings, underserved areas and with underserved populations; they also become our colleagues as teaching faculty in our health center. We receive 1200 applications annually for 8 first-year slots. Our residents reflect a diverse and wide array of life experience, intersectional identities, careers before medicine, and areas of interest both within the field of psychiatry and beyond.

Description of our Department of Psychiatry and our Medical Center

The Department of Psychiatry provides a full continuum of care and a broad range of services that will allow candidates to match their interests to a rich array of clinical and research opportunities. Our services include a comprehensive psychiatric emergency program; adult, geriatric and child services (inpatient, outpatient and partial hospitalization programs); ECT; addiction services; forensic psychiatry services; community-based treatment programs for patients with severe and persistent mental illness; specialized programs for Spanish-speaking patients and deaf/hard-of-hearing patients, and more. Our strong collaborative relationships support our multidisciplinary educational mission and provide state-of-the-art training facilities that include ready access to the URMC Center for Experiential Learning and its simulation training resources. The successful candidate will enjoy close working relationships with leading educators from other disciplines, including psychology, family therapy, nursing, and social work.

We are also growing and evolving! The size of our faculty has nearly doubled in the last 5 years, and our Department is now comprised of almost 2000 members. Responsibilities of the General Psychiatry Program Director:

· Maintain Program ACGME Accreditation including routine review of and adherence to all program requirements, annual program evaluation, engagement in self-study processes and commitment to continuous quality improvement.

· Direct recruitment and selection process for trainees while maintaining training program’s compliance within the RRC and the University of Rochester’s (UR’s) policies

· Conduct a resident evaluation program including competency- and milestone-based evaluations, maintenance of a Clinical Competency Committee, integration of data from across an array of evaluators, and reporting on milestone progress per RRC requirements.

· Develop and strengthen faculty through interviewing, reviewing performance, and ensuring engagement in faculty development.

· Administer the program in the context of the Department of Psychiatry and University of Rochester, including the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC), ACGME institutional requirements, and all initiatives aimed at improving the institutional learning environment

· Conduct program evaluation and continual improvement through maintenance of a program evaluation committee; report required information through Web-ADS.

· Monitor and promote a positive clinical learning environment that emphasizes:

Minimum Qualifications:

· Board certification in general psychiatry

· Eligibility for an unrestricted NYS medical license

· Three (3) or more years of psychiatry education program leadership, administration, and teaching in an ACGME accredited training program

· Demonstration of outstanding academic accomplishments and trajectory which may include innovative educational program development, excellence in teaching, clinical leadership, or research

· Strong communication skills and leadership capability

· Track record of excellence in educational and academic endeavors
