Description:
Summary: Follows standard established procedures, processes and stains tissue for examination
and receives a diagnosis by a Pathologist while under general supervision by performing the
following duties.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Pathologist.*
Maintains positive identification of all specimens throughout the process cycle.*
Prepares gross surgical specimens.*
Prepares a variety of special stains and solutions and uses them in the differential staining
of tissue cell structures using appropriate procedures.*
Maintains and compiles all necessary records and reports.*
Performs and documents all necessary quality control procedures to insure the reliability of all
results.*
Counts and records workload and other statistics.*
Performs and documents all necessary instrument checks and preventative/ routine
maintenance.*
keeping abreast of current literature pertinent to the field.*

Respects patient confidentiality both at work and outside of the working environment.*
Washes glassware.
Logs surgical specimens, labels slides, files slides and specimen blocks and maintains positive
identification of all specimens throughout the process cycle.
