Responsibilities

Position Summary :

The purpose of this position is to provide technical support to an investigative research team at Cognitive Neuorphysiology Lab. The individual will work on studies which have as their goal identifying translational biomarkers and understanding of basic mechanisms of rare neurodevelopment disease. The lab fosters, a collaborative environment, independence in problem-solving and continuing educational development, which is highly valued in applicants. The applicant will provide direct research and teaching support at the professional entry level.

Typical Duties :

  • Perfom in-vivo aseptic animal surgeries, behavior assesments, electrophysiology recording and analyse data from pre clinical mouse models. Handle mouse colonies including breeding, separation, genotyping, maintain mouse database/inventories and ensure compliance with IACUC policies. Communicate with the animal resource department and UCAR on animal colony matters and serve as emergency contact for animal care staff.

  • Independently operate, maintain and use the lab equipment and the resources of the laboratory in an efficient and safe maner.

  • Orders supplies, submit documentations regularly to finance team and overall maintain the order and cleanliness of the lab. Maintain documentation of Lab Safety in compliance with University policy requirements. Keep inventory of chemicals on Chematix. Ensure that approved procedures for proper disposal of all hazardous wastes are followed.

  • Teach and train new laboratory technicians, undergraduate students, and interns on all protocols and bench techniques as well as small animal handling in compliance with UR and OSHA guidelines.

  • Collaborates on design of experiments, facilitates development and adaptation of specific experimental protocolsfor a number of experiment types, and maintains the documentation for future use.

  • Maintains accurate records of experiments; prepares tables and reports for University entities and granting agencies.

  • Keeps abreast of the field of neuroscience by reading journal articles, attending laboratory meetings, and attending relevant University seminars. Contributes to preparing publications, presentation, and proposals related to laboratory research; searches literature for relevant material, drafts experimental procedures and results.

Other projects and job duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree with major course work in the field of assignment required.

  • 1 year of related work experience involving direct assistance to researchers, or any equivalent combination of experience, training, and education required.

  • Animal experience is required. General knowledge of animal handling, surgery and techniques such as perfusions, brain dissection, stereotactic injections, and aspetic technique required.

  • Working knowledge of general techniques and equipment utilized in the laboratory, such as computerized pipettes, thermocycler for PCR, gel apparatus, centrifuges, microscopes, Westerns Blotts, Electrophoresis, Immunohistochemistr, protein/DNA isolation, cell and tissue culture required.

  • General use and knowledge of computer programs such as Image J, Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Adobe to analyze and present data generated in experiments. Use of other equipment may be required and special training will be provided required.

  • Experience with MATLAB/Python or other programming language required.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including written communication required.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills required.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $46,987 - $65,790 Annually

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
