Brewer Science, Inc. is a major innovator of high-technology solutions for the semiconductor / microelectronics markets. We are currently seeking a purpose-driven candidate with an ownership mentality to fill an open position as a Controls Engineer (level I, II, or III). This position will be located in Rolla, MO.

?Summary:

A Controls Engineer will develop and implement control systems for manufacturing and facilities equipment. This position is responsible for developing, programming, configuring, installing, inspecting, troubleshooting, and supporting software to maintain automation equipment and lean initiatives.

Responsibilities:

Controls Engineer I

  • Support and maintain controls programs (C#, .NET) based on standard programming methods.
  • Debug and commission controls systems at facilities during system integration.
  • Provide software solutions to provide data access and alerts to manufacturing, beta, and various other teams.
  • Perform work that involves conventional types of plans, investigations, structures, or equipment with relatively few complex features that have precedents and require investigation of a limited scope.
  • Provide thorough testing of machine functionality to verify that the software program meets the project requirements.
  • Specify, test, and integrate hardware and software components such as robots, analog devices, motion controllers, sensors, vision systems, lasers, and other control related hardware and new controls systems.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve problems with control systems throughout the organization.
  • Work with the controls team to support the development of electrical, controls, software, and data collection systems.
  • Work with other computer languages and systems as necessary, such as the data acquisition system.
  • Develop software solutions to provide data access and alerts to manufacturing, beta groups, and various other teams.
  • Participate in the documentation of software and firmware components.

Controls Engineer II

  • Same duties as Controls Engineer I.
  • Additional duties as Controls Engineer II:
  • Independently support manufacturing activities and address issues with software or controls systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement new controls systems.
  • Assist in the training of new team members and provide guidance on best practices in controls engineering.
  • Contributes new ideas to evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Responsible for assignments that meet specified objectives and timelines with moderate complexity.
  • May present project findings at internal and externals meetings.
  • Complete documentation for the software, electrical control systems, alerts and alarms, and data systems created by the controls teams.
  • Provide training and education to employees and contractors/vendors supporting the control systems.
  • Work inside platforms to maintain and implement historian applications and alarm systems.
  • Develop Software for PLCs using structured text.
  • Support the optimization of software for performance and efficiency.

Controls Engineer III

  • Same duties as Controls Engineer II
  • Additional duties as Controls Engineer III:
  • Participate in company-wide collaboration to develop nd implement a control and monitoring and analysis framework.
  • Design components of software and design systems.
  • Maintain relationships with vendors.
  • Mentor lower-level engineers and technicians, provide technical guidance, and foster a culture of continuous improvement within the team.
  • Follow new practices, trends, and standards in the field by reading journals, attending professional meetings and conferences, holding discussions with experts, etc.
  • Conduct thorough testing and debugging of software.
  • Optimize and refactor existing code for improved performance.
  • Contribute ideas to assignments that need professional knowledge.
  • Interpret, monitor, and analyze data to resolve moderately complex issues in non-routine research and data.

Education and Credentials:

Controls Engineer I

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or other related discipline.
  • Equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Controls Engineer II

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or other related discipline and 2+ years of experience or
  • Masters degree in relevant discipline or
  • Equivalent combination of education and related experience.

Controls Engineer III

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another related field with 4+ years of experience or
  • Masters degree in relevant discipline and 2+ years or experience or
  • Equivalent combination of education and related experience.
