Shire Senior Automation/Controls Engineer in Round Lake, Illinois

SUMMARY

The Senior Automation/Controls Engineer manages the SCADA system and serves as data historian for Galaxy filling lines; identifies improvement opportunities, plans and executes improvement projects; displays standard engineering principles to resolve difficult problems, from conception to final design with team input; plans, schedules and leads project assignments in the evaluation, selection and adaptation of various engineering techniques, procedures and criteria with minimal guidance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide frontline support for operations issues with filling equipment SCADA and serve as data historian

  • Develop and implement cost savings projects which will provide optimal performance of existing plant automated control systems

  • Use GDP on validation protocols, test cases and change control documents

  • Implementation, administration, and control of the documentation used to describe sterilization, filling, conveying, and packaging systems in both narrative and drawing form

  • Plan, manage, and supervise capital projects for Shire's Round Lake, IL Flexbumin facility

  • Ensure that documentation is maintained within budget and completed on time

  • Foster a team management philosophy in all appropriate decision processes

  • Maintain a safe work environment by engaging in site Behavior Based Safety program

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

B.S. degree in Engineering and 5-10 years of related automation and controls engineering experience, or associate degree with relevant work experience with process automation and controls

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have experience or advanced training and demonstrated proficiency in total quality management (TQM), statistical methods, problem analysis and resolution, design of experiments, and software development

  • Successful track record of managing wide-ranging activities and demonstrated leadership skills

  • Recognized as a technical expert by peers

  • Extensive cross-functional team experience, including technical and non-technical work

  • Ability to organize and present technical and project management overviews without assistance

  • Ability to work with various Allen Bradley (AB) PLC systems

  • Knowledge of various programs including Visual Basic, RSLogix, Intellution, iFIX, OSI PI, data visualization system, etc.

  • Ability to perform database maintenance and design

  • Ability to work with Process Control Instrumentation and PID algorithms

  • Must not be allergic to cephalosporin drugs

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to push, pull and carry up to 25 lbs.

  • In general, the position requires a combination of sedentary work and walking around observing conditions in the facility

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be able to work in controlled environments requiring special gowning; will be required to follow gowning requirements and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body

  • No make-up, jewelry, contact lenses, nail polish or artificial fingernails may be worn in the manufacturing environment

  • Some Clean Room and cool/hot storage conditions

  • Must not be allergic to Cephalosporin and related products
