You will be joining a team of enterprise technology analysts working in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment dedicated to leading edge SAP, CRM, and Smart Grid applications specifically related to the utility industry solution IS-U CCS and other enterprise applications. We are responsible for the design, configuration, operation, maintenance and enhancement of these enterprise applications to ensure that they are reliable, accessible, and meet the needs of the business units.

Essential functions of the job include configuring SAP, and other enterprise applications, to support system modifications and enhancements; provide technical consultation to the business unit; define technical requirements by collaborating with process owners; develop detailed designs and specifications; develop testing criteria and conduct testing; plan implementation strategies; communicate technical information to the user community; optimize enterprise applications.

This position requires the skill to:

We are posting this opportunity for the SAP Enterprise Technology Analyst Intermediate along with our Associate SAP Enterprise Technology Analyst Entry level position. The department will be filling one position at either of those levels. Purpose

To provide a level of specialized business process and technical support utilizing SMUD’s various enterprise and other integrated technology solutions in the areas of design, configuration, operation, maintenance, and enhancement; and perform as a functional resource to the user community to ensure reliability, accessibility and effectiveness to meet the needs of the business unit overall.

Nature and Scope

This is the intermediate level (I) within the Enterprise Technology Analyst classification series, consisting of entry (E), intermediate (I) and journey (J) levels. Supervision is generally close. The incumbent will demonstrate familiarity with the following five specialty areas:

  • Enterprise Systems Design

  • Enterprise Applications: Modifications & Enhancements

  • Enterprise Applications: Optimization

  • Enterprise System Reporting

  • Project Management

This intermediate level employee will learn and receive increasingly complex and difficult assignments within one or more specialty area, leading eventually to performing at the journey level. Positions in this class are normally filled by progression from the Enterprise Technology Analyst (E), from other areas within SMUD where the incumbent gains knowledge of an enterprise technology application, or from the outside with the required minimum qualifications in one of the specialty areas.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Enterprise Systems Design:

  • Design and configure various enterprise technology solutions to support business units; develop detailed designs and define user requirements by collaborating with process owners; document business processes and transaction steps; define codes and values; address integration issues; develop testing criteria and conduct testing; plan implementation strategies; and communicate technical information to the user community.

  • Enterprise Applications - Modifications and Enhancements:

  • Assess the need for modification and enhancement to existing enterprise applications by evaluating effectiveness of current technology; participate in facilitating user group forums; identify needed changes and enhancements; perform workflow and process evaluation; identify impacts to business processes; revise user and system requirements; design and integrate modifications; prepare change notices; develop testing criteria and conduct testing; and provide technical consultation and solutions.

  • Enterprise Applications - Optimization:

  • Offer technical support and user training; establish training needs; develop training material; conduct classroom and on-the-job training; troubleshoot user obstacles through training and/or on-line support; provide technical consultation and solutions; and troubleshoot system problems.

  • Enterprise System Reporting:

  • Provide business units with business necessity information by designing user reports; produce standard and custom reports; perform ad-hoc queries; modify standard forms and reports; and work with users to define reporting needs.

  • Project Management:

  • Plan, review, coordinate, conduct, and/or guide work activities and research of information associated with internal/external business unit projects; communicate with team members and incorporate their input to processes and techniques; provide staff training; select, or assist in selecting and orienting new staff; assist in evaluating work performance results; administer the department budget by participating in planning, monitoring, and revising schedules, work plans, expenditures, and assignments; and perform or assist in the preparation of procurement or bid documents, the evaluation of proposals, and the recommendation of awards to contractors or vendors.

  • Performs other related duties as needed to include working outside of typical business hours when necessary.

Required Education

  • High School diploma or equivalent in related field

Required Experience

Either 1 or more (1+) years of progressively responsible relevant work as an analyst in the areas of day-to-day design and maintenance of enterprise applications, or 5 or more (5+) years within a business unit with broad and deep knowledge of business processes and/or technology.

Knowledge Of

Enterprise application systems design, configuration, and functionality; concepts of the system development lifecycle; concepts of implementation strategies; concepts of data modeling, scripting, report design, data maintenance and retrieval; computer systems and resources; techniques and practices for resolving technical issues; characteristics and operational needs of various organizational units; standard business policies and procedures; standard operating procedures for modern office equipment including a computer and applicable software; and methods and techniques for training staff.

Desirable Education

BA/BS degree from an accredited college or university majoring in Computer Science, MIS, or related field.

  • Itron Meter Data Management System (MDMS/MDUS) IEE 10.3 or higher

  • Prior technology experience defining, implementing and supporting enterprise applications that require moderately complex integrations to one or more systems; including the use of XML/EDI and Web Services.

  • SAP Plant Maintenance /EAM configuration

  • Enterprise Scheduling/Mobile or Web experience

  • Experience working in an agile environment

  • Experience working in a production support role
