Job Summary

Responsible for collecting, processing, and shipping all research samples for clinical trials

managed by the Huntsman Cancer Institute Clinical Trials Office. The incumbent will be

familiar with a variety of research laboratory concepts, practices, and procedures.

Essential Functions

  1. Follows procedures and work practices related to collection, processing, storage and shipment of research specimens as defined in lab manuals, protocols and study-specific reference materials.

  2. Responsible for validation of SP requests and preparation of kits and other materials for specimen collections per standard lab practices.

  3. Responsible for primary trial assignments and related duties.

  4. Ensures specimen integrity through appropriate handling and accurate labeling of specimens, related requisitions and documentation.

  5. Manages time and workload efficiently and prioritizes workflow effectively; able to assess workload and communicate when deadlines cannot be met.

  6. Adheres to safe laboratory practices while maintaining a clean and organized work space.

  7. Communicates & collaborates effectively with all groups within the CTO , Sponsors and Clinic/Hospital Staff.

  8. Able to work independently; demonstrates adequate problem-solving skills and awareness of available resources.

Work Environment and Level of Frequency that may be required:

Nearly Continuously: Office environment.

Often: Infectious disease, oils ( there is air or skin exposure to oils or other cutting fluids ), hazards ( includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, or exposure to chemicals ).

Seldom: Exposure to animals.

Physical Requirements and Level of Frequency that may be required

Nearly Continuously: Hearing, listening, talking.

Often: Repetitive hand motion (such as typing), walking, standing, sitting.

Seldom: Bending, reaching overhead.

Minimum Qualifications

One year full-time laboratory experience or equivalency required (1 year full-time lab equivalency equals successful completion of 2 semesters laboratory college course work) ; knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment and terminology as well as knowledge of chemical and physical properties of materials or substances and appropriate specimen handling techniques required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required. OSHA training and certification in animal care and use or the willingness to complete the certification may be required by some departments.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
