We are looking for knowledgeable,caring and innovative Substitute Deaf Mentor with the Parent Infant Program for the Deaf/Hard-of-Hearing. There are positions available all throughout the State.
Principal Duties
As a Substitute Deaf Mentor you will:
- Provide home-based services to families with deaf/hard-of-hearing children,age birth to three years,in the areas of Deaf-hood.
- Prepare to share experiences and answer families' questions about Deaf-hood.
- Perform weekly home visits to children and families,and models for parents the activities to be worked on with children during the week.
- Help families access deaf community activities and events.
- Respect and affirm the diversity of the deaf community within discussions with parents.
The Ideal Candidate
The Ideal Candidate will possess:
- Must be deaf or hard of hearing.
- Must have American Sign Language (ASL) skills.
- Must have knowledge of Deaf culture.
- Deal with people in a manner which shows sensitivity,tact,and professionalism.
- Communicate clearly and effectively.
- Maintain strict confidentiality.
- Successful completion of a criminal background check.
