Job Summary

Apply your public relations and communication skills to make an impact on critical outreach activities and opportunities as a student employee for the Utah FORGE geothermal project, sponsored by the US Department of Energy and run by Energy & Geoscience Institute. Help us tell our story to a variety of audiences while building and refining your communication skills and earning some cash!!

We are seeking a motivated student to work 10-20 hours per week, during standard business hours (M-F, 8am-5:30pm), starting in October 2024. Pay is between $15-$18 per hour commensurate with skills, experience and knowledge.

Undergraduate internship may be available.

Job Summary

Edits and assists in the preparation of online materials, public relations materials, posters, news releases, written reports, utilizing specified format requirements and terminology. Researches relevant story topics and drafts copy. Explores opportunities to participate in various outreach and STEM activities.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

  1. Designs, and edits a variety of documents, including social media, informational materials, e-posts, web materials, posters, and news releases.

  2. Writes/rewrites outreach and web materials, including social media posts.

  3. Contributes to effective presentation of technical findings and concepts, including important ideas/takeaways, to share with general and targeted audiences.

  4. Works to deadlines.

  5. Researches and studies communication opportunities related to project activities.

  6. Looks ahead to strategically consider opportunities for placement of content and participation in events.

  7. Participates in public engagement

  8. May perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Currently enrolled University of Utah student in Communications, Journalism, or a related field. Strong writing and verbal communication skills; familiarity with a variety of computer software, social media platforms, and communication methods; ability to work both individually and in a team setting. Demonstrated skills in research, writing and copyediting. Organized, responsible, proactive, and detail oriented.

Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel software is required. Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) is a plus.
