Position Overview
A Paint Technician is responsible for safely contributing to the production of, or supporting the production of commercial trucks that deliver superior Quality and Uptime by performing tasks typically associated with assemblers, material handlers, and/or other common manufacturing roles. Paint Technicians are part of a workgroup or team working as one cohesive group.
Responsibilities
Working within the Navistar Operating System (NOS), read and follow written and verbal work instructions and standard operating procedures with emphasis on safety and quality inclusive of:
Demonstrating overall safe work behavior; including the utilization of proper safety equipment and adhering to safety guidelines
Identifying and correcting potentially unsafe situations/conditions or notifying proper team members about unsafe or emergency situations and recommending corrective measures, actions or special equipment needed to improve safety
Following accepted housekeeping assignments and assuring work area meets acceptable housekeeping and safety standards
Collaborating with peers to accomplish projects or tasks and participate in group cost improvement events, discussions, and meetings
Keeping supervisors and peers informed about accomplishments, issues/problems, and/or changes
Performing routine inspections on products, processes, materials to assure work output meets specifications of shop floor paperwork
Cleaning and preparing surfaces in preparation for paint application
Repairing dents, scratches and smooth surfaces to prepare vehicles for painting
Cleaning painting equipment, using solvents, wire brushes, and cloths for cleaning duties
May perform manual paint spraying
Assembling and installing parts using hand tools, air tools and/or power tools according to standard work instructions (SWI)
Fitting, bolting or otherwise connecting components and equipment according to work instructions and specifications
Attending to equipment and ensuring proper operation and participate in the implementation of Total Productive Maintenance
Loading raw materials into production processes and removing output from machines or fixtures
Material handling, including but not limited to: loading and unloading trailers. Scanning material into and out of inventory and from one area to another using various modes of bar code scanning technology. Moving material into and out of warehouse stores locations, both physically and in the system. Responsible for processing materials paperwork, conducting inventory counts and audits, working from exception-based reports to manage inventory and processes

Minimum Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
Additional Requirements
Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Physical Requirements (Ability to do the following up to 10 hours per shift):
Walk, stand, sit, bend, twist/turn, kneel, squat, crawl
Climb using both legs and arms
Head/neck movement
Reach outward or above the shoulder
Drive or operate equipment such as lifts and/or motor vehicles
Lift, carry, push, or pull 15-45 pounds
Repetitive use of hands and fingers
Use of vibrating tools
Depth perception required
Ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of color
Exposure to constant and intermittent noise, fumes, smoke and gases, solvents, paint, grease and oils, radiant energy, and slippery surfaces
In Paint dept, you may be required to wear a respirator and must comply with OSHA requirements for performing the job, including 29 CFR section 1910.134 which requires a respirator fit test, the satisfactory completion of a questionnaire and, if necessary, respiratory medical evaluation in connection with the use of a respirator.
