Actalent Calibration Technician in San Diego, California

Job Title: Engineering TechnicianJob Description

This Engineering Technician role focuses on Surface Mount Technology (SMT) equipment. This position involves operating and maintaining SMT-related tools and systems to ensure high-quality standards in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain SMT-related tools and systems, including soldering, solder print, Fuji NXT pick-and-place machines, and reflow furnaces.

  • Inspect SMT devices to ensure quality standards are met.

  • Load tape and reel components and conduct component rework.

  • Interpret blueprints and mechanical drawings.

  • Operate a microscope for detailed inspection work.

  • Comply with safety protocols, including wearing cleanroom apparel and personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Effectively communicate with and train team members.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in soldering, debugging, and component-level troubleshooting.

  • Experience in engineering and troubleshooting.

  • Ability to read and understand schematics.

  • Experience with operating microscopes.

  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in typing, Excel, SAP, and Outlook.

  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.

  • Capability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

  • Fine motor skills for handling small parts and tools.

  • Close vision, color vision, and depth perception; 20/20 corrected vision may be required in some divisions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • AA or AS degree (preferred); high school diploma (required).

  • 8+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a manufacturing/production environment.

  • Proficiency in arithmetic, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing all units of measure, including decimals and fractions.

  • Ability to train others effectively.

  • Familiarity with SPC, FMEA, Lean, and Six Sigma principles (preferred).

  • Eligible to work in an ITAR-regulated environment.

Work Environment

This position operates in a manufacturing environment that requires compliance with safety protocols, including wearing cleanroom apparel and personal protective equipment (PPE). The role may require standing or sitting for extended periods, lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds, and fine motor skills for handling small parts. The work schedule is subject to change based on production needs. Benefits include 10 paid holidays and 5 days of accrued PTO. This is a 12-month contract to start, with potential for extension or conversion to full-time employment.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.86 - $32.32/hr.
