Job Purpose

The Payroll Manager at BRIDGE owns the payroll function and has deep knowledge of the HRIS and supporting systems as well as experience and understanding of tax filing requirements, payroll regulations, wage and hour regulations and employee benefits. This role will manage up to four different entity’s semi-monthly payrolls, and is the go-to person for resolution of all staff payroll questions.

This is a full-time, hybrid, role located in the San Francisco Headquarters of our non-profit organization.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Process accurate and efficient payroll for multiple states and multiple companies for 400+ exempt and non-exempt employees

  • Carry out tax reporting, benefits-records administration, and payroll systems maintenance

  • Process time and attendance information in a timely manner to meet the deadline for payroll

  • Ensure all timesheets, payroll changes, sick and vacation accruals and other information is entered and approved prior to the close of the payroll run

  • Identify and resolve day-to-day payroll issues, escalating any significant issues in a timely manner

  • Respond to staff questions and promote a strong customer focus with ongoing emphasis on training and quality of service delivery

  • Work closely with the Human Resources and Finance team members

  • Responsible for payroll tax deposits and full compliance with federal, state and local regulations

  • Accountable for all annual payroll audits including workers compensation and retirement funds

  • Maintain, reconcile and fund the company 403(b) plan

  • Maintain reconcile and fund the company benefit plans

  • Work closely with external partners (ADP, Ascentis, LFG, et al) to insure optimal efficiency.

Requirements

  • Recent experience using ADP Work Force Now payroll system.

  • Minimum of five years of experience in payroll, tax set-up, and required filings.

  • Experience independently managing and advising on payroll processing.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, HR, or related field.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of payroll practices, procedures, regulations, and requirements.

  • Experience with benefit deductions and carrier account transitions.

  • Understanding of vendor file feeds and managing monthly reconciliation or changes from employee or company accounts to vendor accounts.

  • Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal skills, and proactive collaboration.

  • Organized with attention to detail.

  • An aptitude to work with numbers.

  • Enjoys working in a collaborative team-oriented atmosphere, offering training and advising to employees for continual process improvement.

  • Computer experience including Excel, Microsoft Word, or similar software applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual English and Spanish.

  • Experience processing payrolls across multiple states (with emphasis in California, Oregon and Washington).

  • Experience with NovaTime time and attendance system.

  • Ability to remain in a stationary (standing and/or seated) position more than half the time

  • Cognitive ability to multi-task, recall accurate processes, manage semi-monthly workload

  • Ability to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 25 pounds without assistance
