Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.

  • Associate’s degree in early childhood or closely related field with 3 years full-time (or equivalent) paid or voluntary experience in an early childhood group setting working with infants – 5-year-olds, or a current preschool Child Development Associate ( CDA ) with 3 years full-time (or equivalent) paid or voluntary experience in an early childhood group setting working with infants – 5-year-olds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in child development, early childhood education or a closely related field with 12+ credit hours in early childhood with 2 years full-time (or equivalent) paid or voluntary experience in an early childhood setting working with preschool children (aged 3-5 years). If the degree is in a related field, a transcript showing early childhood development coursework is required.

  • Experience working in a university laboratory setting for young children.

  • Experience working in an accredited program.

  • Experience working with children with special needs.

Job Description

Responsible for providing quality childcare by planning, developing and implementing a developmental program for children.

Job Duties

  • Plan and implement a developmental program for children using a DAP curriculum.

  • Evaluate and maintain records regarding each child’s development.

  • Utilize appropriate direct and indirect guidance strategies to guide behavior.

  • Model and mentor university lab students on developmentally appropriate classroom practices.

  • Maintain verbal and written communication with parents.

  • Maintain attendance documentation.

  • Maintain the classroom and playground environments.

  • Supervise hand-washing, naps and the general health, safety and welfare of children.

  • Assist parents and other teachers in meeting the children’s physical, emotional, social and cognitive skills.

  • Follow the requirements of childcare licensing, accreditation and relevant agencies.

  • Administer first aid to children as needed.

  • Complete required training and education hours.

  • Maintain required credentials.

Additional Information to Applicants

This is a full time position in a child development center lab school. Teachers are observed by TXST students and parents. Classrooms have video and audio monitoring and one way windows for observing and listening. All applicants must pass a criminal history background check with fingerprinting. Shifts change each 6 months from 7:30-4:30 to 8:30-5:30.
