Job Title: Officer of Accounting

SUMMARY:
The Officer of Accounting is responsible for the management of the accounting specialists and staff. Responsible to approve daily accounting work. Assist in preparation for month, quarter and year end procedures. Performs higher level accounting task such as detailed reconciliations and investments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor and/or Trustco Bank’s Board of Directors.
Responsible for all accounting department activities and directly supervises accounting specialists and staff.
Proactively monitor and operate a robust internal control environment in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley or similar requirements.
Reviews and approves daily work.
Perform higher level accounting tasks including detailed reconciliations and investments.
Support the timely reporting of key financial information, monitor the performance and quality of activities performed based upon company standards.
Ensure the adequate systems and procedures are in place to provide controls, safeguarding of assets and the efficient execution of financial activities.
Stay abreast of GAAP and IRS rules changes as well as other regulations that are applicable to the Bank’s accounting practices.
Recommend improvements to accounting policies and procedures ensuring changes drive the implementation of directives.
Manage the allowance for loan loss and generates all supporting reports and schedules.
Prepare regulatory reporting such as the quarterly FFIEC Call Report, Quarterly Services Survey, FDIC Summary Deposits, quarterly TDR’s and weekly FR2900.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
· A bachelor’s degree in business related field or equivalent level of education and experience.
· SOX compliance knowledge and background.
· Strong U.S. GAAP technical accounting background.
· Effective verbal and written communication skills.
· Well organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and work to time sensitive deadlines.
· Ability to work well independently and in groups.
· Working knowledge with Microsoft Office Programs; Excel and Word.
PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
· Master’s degree in business related field.
· Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS:
This is a full-time position. Office hours Monday – Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
TRAVEL:
No travel required.

Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace ; bilingual skills a plus. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information, including but not limited to company policies and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and customers.
