Position Summary

The Cell Therapy Process Research and Engineering Team (CT-PRE) is seeking a highly motivated, dynamic and self-driven individual with a dedication to discovery and development of novel engineered CAR T cell therapeutics for the treatment of cancer. The successful candidate will have experience with the extraction and analysis of nucleic acid samples from primary cells and cell lines. Direct experience with Droplet Digital PCR (ddPCR) is essential for this role, NGS hand-on expertise a plus. Cell culture experience is preferred. In addition, this position will work with senior researchers to execute studies, analyze data and communicate results. The primary focus of the Associate Scientist role will be to support development and execution of molecular assays to support the preclinical development of CAR T assets working at the interface between process and analytical development. This position is ideal for the innovative scientist who is driven and passionate about cell therapy in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Position Responsibilities

In the role as an Associate Scientist, the ideal candidate:

  • Designs and executes experiments based on protocols

  • Analyses and interprets experimental data

  • Makes decisions that require choosing between limited alternatives to resolve problems of varying levels of complexity

  • Actively participates in troubleshooting of routine problems and initiatives related to continuous improvement or development of new approaches / technologies

  • Coordinates activities with other team members to achieve results

  • Spend most of the time in the lab, keep very detailed notes on experiments and update the group on lab progress.

  • Extraction, cleanup, and QC of nucleic acids from primary cells and cell lines

  • Optimization of PCR parameters for targeted analysis

  • Execution of Droplet Digital PCR & NGS workflows for gene-edited samples

  • Stringent documentation of experiment execution

  • Analysis and organization of resulting data for communication to wider team

  • Work with other team members to learn and implement molecular analytical methods for cell therapy

  • Work predominantly in a laboratory setting

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • 2+ years of academic and / or industry experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with a variety of nucleic acid extraction techniques (column-based and non-column-based technologies).

  • Experience with ddPCR & NGS platforms and associated analysis software (Ex. QuantStudio, QX200, QXOne, etc).

  • Familiarity with concepts in molecular biology and genetics.

  • Ability to multitask, independently organize time, and plan specifics of work.

  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills demonstrated in a team environment.

  • Willingness to think outside the box, be creative and demonstrate an ability to work in a very fast-paced, ever-changing environment.

  • Hands-on experience with gene editing technologies (CRISPR/Cas9 preferred), in human cell lines and primary cells, a plus.

  • Experienced ELNs system a plus.

  • Familiarity with molecular genetics software, eg. SnapGene or Geneious is a plus.

  • Experience with cell culture and sorting techniques is a plus.

The starting compensation for this job is a range from $82,000 - $102,000 plus incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility).

The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and where the job is performed.

Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
