[Job Duties: ]{.underline}Responsible for the safe and efficient maintenance and operation on deck of all fishing gear, deck equipment, gangways, lines and deck crew. Upholds all vessel, company and required safety regulations with regards to vessel and equipment. Ensures all slings, hooks, and other lifting devices to cables, trawl equipment and nets are operational and meet applicable required standards to safely haul, empty, repair and set fishing gear at sea in all weather conditions. Ensures safe operation of cranes, winches and all other lifting equipment, according to Safe Working Load, used to bring aboard and move equipment and supplies. Ensures safe operation of skiff to transport crew, supplies or equipment at sea or in port. Ensures repairs and adjustments to fishing gear and trawl deck equipment are completed as needed. Ensures vessel docking lines are secure to and from docks and other vessels at tie up. Also ensures deck is secure for departure. Ensures preparation of vessel for shipyard arrival and departure to include spill equipment stages, oil booms deployed and gangway secure for use. Supervises all deck personnel, operations and safety during fishing, voyages, offloads and in port. Trains all Deckhands and Combis to move, hoist, or position nets and equipment safely as required to haul and set fishing gear and equipment. Trains Deck Hands and Combis in safe and efficient deck operations, including incinerator operation. All training done in compliance with manufacturer guidelines and environmental regulations. Ensures deck crew are in compliance with prohibited species handling policies, including deck sorting according to EFP. Ensures compliance with applicable sections of the Safety Management System. Is knowledgeable and conversant on applicable policies and procedures contained in the SMS. Conducts job observations on assigned crewmembers to ensure standardized training requirements are met; provides recommendations and feedback on performance, including written performance evaluations. Ensures required equipment inspections and logs are completed. Participates as member of fire and safety team in emergency situation. Works with Fleet Gear Manager/Operations and suppliers to plan, budget and prepare for ongoing fishing gear repairs, purchases and changes in equipment technology, including bycatch management gear. Maintains accurate and ongoing inventory of gear onboard vessel and in storage, both Seattle and Dutch Harbor. Provides inventory to Fleet Gear Manager/Operations upon request. Responsible for maintenance and safe storage of fishing gear electronics including catch indicators, 3rd wires, sonar and eggs. Promptly reports any deck equipment abnormalities/problems to Chief Engineer. Ensures deckhands and combi's work in processing factory when not engaged in deck operations (where applicable). Employer is offering at least 40 hours per week at a rate of $33.51/hr. Employer is offering up to 44 hours of overtime per week as needed, but not guaranteed. Overtime will be paid at a rate of $50.27/hr for working greater than 40 hours in any given week. Monday - Sunday 6:00am - 4:00pm. Days and shifts will vary. Holidays, weekends, and evenings required as needed. Employer reserves the right to pay a higher wage rate or bonus to any worker in their sole discretion, based on performance, skill, tenure, or experience. First three weeks of employment will consist of at least 35 hours per week of paid on the job training.
