This role is a part of New Shepard, a reusable suborbital rocket system designed to take astronauts and research payloads past the Karman line - the internationally recognized boundary of space. Through operational reusability, New Shepard supports our mission of lowering the cost of access to space.
As part of a passionate and accomplished team, you will lead an integrated team comprised of members from the program management, engineering, integrated supply chain, operations, maintenance, and production organizations. As the New Shepard Lead Engineer (Cognizant Engineer) for the Crew Capsule Reaction Control / Terminal Deceleration System (RCS/TDS), you will assume ultimate ownership and accountability for the success of the RCS/TDS system throughout the product lifecycle.
You will lead design and ensure the successful production of the RCS/TDS system for the next generation New Shepard launch vehicles. This will require leadership, creative problem solving, and ingenious design work You will also be the technical authority for RCS/TDS system decisions affecting our ongoing launch and refurbishment operations at Launch Site One.
As New Shepard Lead Engineer for the Crew Capsule Reaction Control / Terminal Deceleration System (RCS/TDS), you must have an excellent understanding of design including fluids system design, structural and thermal analysis. You must also have exceptional leadership and project management skills. We are seeking a self-motivated and highly organized individual who can work with minimal direction and coordinate teams in the successful execution of engineering integration activities.
This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.
Responsibilities:
Lead the Reaction Control / Terminal Deceleration System integrated team in successfully executing a design iteration for the next generation New Shepard Launch vehicles
Lead team meetings to set priorities and direction for the team, and well as to stay accountable for the team's work and decisions
Coordinate configuration changes with upstream and downstream stakeholders
Assess programmatic impact of configuration change requests
Create and manage line of balance for hardware and key equipment to support upcoming builds
Partner with manufacturing engineering and contribute to development of detailed procedures
Respond to unexpected changes to ensure integration activities stay on schedule, on budget, and are completed with high-quality and documented build pedigree
Coordinate with procurement, internal and external manufacturing to ensure that hardware priorities are well understood and are actively managed to support the need dates
Work closely with key suppliers in coming up with creative solutions to manufacture complex designs including composites
Identify schedule-critical hardware, equipment, people, and facilities; resolve constraints
Develop recovery strategies when non-conformances or other escapes are identified
Develop and execute verification plans for the subsystem
Identify risks and develop mitigation plans
Develop schedule and budget; manage and report progress
Develop and report key project metrics

10+ years of experience in design, development, integration, or testing - preferably with aerospace hardware or complex technical systems.
